When Nashville-based singer-songwriter Laura Bryna first released "Painkiller" earlier this year, it quickly stood out for its raw intensity and emotional storytelling. Now, the country-rock star has taken the song to an entirely new level by teaming up with internationally acclaimed DJ and producer Sam Feldt for a remix that blends her sultry vocals with Feldt's signature euphoric soundscapes. The result is a country-dance hybrid that feels just as at home on Broadway in Nashville as it does on a beach in Ibiza. Ahead of its official release, Laura Bryna spoke with The Blast about teaming up with Sam Feldt, the rise of YeeDM, and why breaking genre rules keeps her inspired.

"The first time I heard Sam's remix, I was completely blown away," Laura Bryna told The Blast exclusively. "It felt like my song had just put on a whole new outfit and was ready to hit the international dance floor! 'Painkiller' already carried this sultry, slow-burn intensity, but Sam injected it with this vibrant, euphoric energy that made me want to get up and move."

While the remix sounds like a seamless collaboration, the partnership came together behind the scenes. Feldt, who is highly selective about the tracks he chooses to remix, heard "Painkiller" and saw its potential to be reimagined. For Bryna, learning that such a major global artist wanted to put his spin on her song was both humbling and thrilling.

"It's not every day a global DJ with millions of fans decides to put his spin on your song," she explained. "We didn't connect one-on-one in the studio, but honestly, the way he translated the emotion and message of 'Painkiller' into his world? It felt like we were speaking the same language, just through beats and vibes instead of words."

That "language" is what makes the remix so striking, keeping the lyrical heart of Bryna's country-pop ballad intact while elevating it with lush, melodic house production designed for festival stages and late-night playlists.

Bryna Says YeeDM Proves Country Music Has No Borders

Laura Bryna's collaboration with Feldt also places her firmly within the growing YeeDM trend, where country storytelling collides with dance music's high-energy pulse. With breakout hits like Marshmello and Kane Brown's "One Thing Right" and Alesso and Nate Smith's "I Like It" helping fuel the movement, Bryna sees the genre crossover as a natural evolution.

"Oh, I am here for this YeeDM movement!" she said with a laugh. "I've always believed country music has no borders, and blending it with dance and electronic vibes just opens the floodgates for even more people to connect with the stories we tell. I love the idea of someone two-stepping in their boots on Broadway while someone else is vibin' to the same track on a beach in Ibiza. That's the power of music, breaking genres, breaking boundaries, and bringing people together."

She likens the blend of country and EDM to fireworks. "Country brings the heart, the raw, honest lyrics that hit you in the soul. EDM brings the pulse, that beat that moves your body before your brain even catches up," she told The Blast. "Together, it's like fireworks. You've got the story, and then BOOM, the drop!"

Bryna On Her Genre-Bending Journey

This isn't the first time Laura Bryna has defied expectations. From her feisty cover of Joan Jett's "I Hate Myself for Loving You" to heartfelt originals like "Over Being Under You" and the vintage-inspired "Rise," Bryna has proven she thrives outside the confines of any single genre. For her, music is about exploration.

"Music isn't about coloring inside the lines. It's about grabbing every crayon in the box and seeing what magic you can create," she said. "One day it's steel guitar and heartbreak, the next it's bass drops and neon lights, and I love that!"

Still, whether she's leaning into pop-country, experimenting with EDM, or stepping into her festive "Miss Christmas" persona each holiday season, Bryna insists her core never changes.

"No matter what genre I'm dancing with, it always starts with the story. Genres may change, but who I am as a storyteller doesn't. I don't follow trends, I follow truth. And when you stay anchored in authenticity, you can cross any musical bridge and still bring your people with you."

With the "Painkiller (Sam Feldt Remix)" now available on all streaming platforms, Bryna is excited to see fans embrace the track as the ultimate soundtrack for summer. In fact, it's already leading her own seasonal playlist.

"My summer playlist is pure good vibes and wide-open windows," she shared. "Of course, I've got the 'Painkiller' remix leading the pack, it's got that breezy beat that just feels like sunshine. I'm always cranking Kenny Chesney's 'American Kids' because it brings me right back to tandem bike rides on the boardwalk. Shania Twain's 'Man! I Feel Like a Woman!' is my go-to for a little sass and confidence. And throw in some HARDY and Jelly Rollfor those late-night wind-down drives. It's a little wild, a little heartfelt, and a whole lotta me."
