Former "Grace Under Fire" star Brett Butler is once again fighting to avoid being homeless and is thanking fans and friends for support during a very tough time in her life. The 63-year-old former writer, actress and comedian is the focus of a recent GoFundMe, launched this week by a friend who claims Butler is in a "critical situation" of being evicted from her home and is aiming at raising $15,000 to keep her off the streets.
Although Brett Butler was once a successful star with a sitcom on network TV, she has struggled with addiction and homelessness in the past, and like many other Americans, took a major hit during the COVID pandemic.
"But like many others, this past year has put her in a critical situation and desperation has set in. I’m not exaggerating using those words. It is urgent. Brett has exhausted all of her resources and the stress of looming eviction is straining her mentally and physically," her friend Lon Strickler wrote after setting up the GoFundMe campaign.

The campaign has raised over $4,400 since going live, but it seems that some are raising an eyebrow at a former Hollywood star asking for handouts, so Brett Butler issued an explanation to some and thanks to others for donating to her dire situation.
"Hey, y'all ~
My deepest thanks to everyone who's responding to this with such kindness and generosity. My gratitude is unbounded - especially to my friend Lon for his stalwart support," a message from Butler read on her GoFundMe.
She continued,
"To those who've sent amazingly encouraging messages - friends and strangers - bless you. Whether you've left your contact info with Lon or in private messages, I'll reply to all as soon as possible.
And for those who have 'mixed feelings' - at best - about this particular GoFundMe, let's just say...we get it. (This wasn't exactly on our bucket list, either.)"
