Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown’s father, Quenton M. Brown, known by his middle name, Marselles, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a violent stabbing incident in Las Vegas.
Quenton M. Brown, who is a former professional boxer, was booked Thursday morning in connection with a parking lot dispute at All American Park.

According to NBC affiliate 3 News, police records show the altercation allegedly began over a minor “door ding” when the victim’s car was struck by the suspect’s vehicle.
Witnesses told police that the dispute quickly escalated. The victim’s girlfriend reported that after a verbal argument, Marselles followed the victim and attacked him. She alleged that Marselles “swung his arm in a straight stabbing motion and struck [the victim] in his back.”
Another witness claimed they saw the suspect swing his knife up to 25 times during the altercation.

The victim, identified as a youth football coach, suffered multiple stab wounds to his back, clavicle, and hands, as well as a broken rib. He was rushed to a hospital for emergency surgery and remains in critical condition, per TMZ.
When police later located Marselles in the passenger seat of a vehicle, he was bleeding from the face and had abrasions on his knees. Officers said he spontaneously admitted, without being questioned, that the entire altercation was “over a door ding.”
Marselles is expected to appear in court on Thursday as the investigation continues. He retired from boxing with a 33-18-1 record, having debuted in the sport in 1989.
Jaylen Brown Reportedly Unaware Of Father’s Arrest, Keeps Focus On Celtics Career

Jaylen Brown, a four-time All-Star and cornerstone of the Boston Celtics franchise, was reportedly unaware of the incident. Sources told TMZ that the NBA champ does not have a close relationship with his father and only learned of the arrest after it made headlines.
Jaylen was the third overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft and has spent his entire nine-year career with the Celtics. He helped the team capture its first championship in over a decade last season after defeating the Dallas Mavericks in five games.
This year, however, Boston’s title defense fell short, with the team eliminated in the Eastern Conference semifinals by the New York Knicks. Jaylen finished the season averaging 22.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game in the regular season, while putting up 22.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 3.9 assists in the playoffs.
Opening Up His Role In Boston

Away from the headlines about his father, Jaylen has been making headlines of his own for speaking out about the sacrifices he’s had to make in Boston. In a sit-down with CelticsBlog’s Noa Dalzell last month, the four-time All-Star admitted he hasn’t always loved the role he’s been asked to play, but he’s done it for the sake of the team.
“I disagree with a lot of things,” Jaylen said. “I’ve had to change roles, styles. I’ve had to do things that other players of my talent just haven’t had to do, and I’ve been okay with them, because I’ve always been a team guy. I feel like sometimes that gets taken for granted.”
For years, Jaylen has taken a backseat to Jayson Tatum, and in the last two seasons, he had to step even further into the shadows after the Celtics brought in Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday. But those changes paid off because the new lineup finally pushed Boston over the edge, ending their title drought with a championship win in 2024.

Now at 28, Jaylen knows sacrifice is part of the game.
“I feel like I’m very talented,” he said. “I’m one of the talented people in this league, on this planet, I feel like. I’m looking forward to showing the world more.”
While he admits he would’ve liked his role to play out differently, the NBA champ says he’s grateful to have helped bring a banner back to Boston and secure his place in Celtics history.
