By Favour Adegoke on August 20, 2025 at 1:15 PM EDT

Bryan Kohberger brazenly boasted about the Idaho murders to a classmate, according to newly unsealed documents.
Weeks after the killings of four University of Idaho students, Kohberger allegedly told a female colleague from his criminology PhD program that whoever carried out the crimes was a "pretty good" killer.
The now-convicted murderer, Bryan Kohberger, also reportedly praised the killer's timing, noting how the attacks took place just as students were preparing to leave for break.
The Former PhD Student Praised The Idaho Killer As 'Pretty Good'

Bryan Kohberger allegedly had no qualms about boasting about the murders of four University of Idaho students, despite the gruesome nature of his crime.
Three weeks after the murders, Kohberger, who appears to have kept up with the news around his handiwork, struck up a conversation with a female classmate at Washington State University, during which he brought up the case on his own.
According to newly unsealed documents cited by TMZ, the woman recalled Kohberger praising the killer, saying the person "must have been pretty good."
As for why he had this viewpoint, Kohberger, during the conversation, hinted partly at it by praising the killer's timing for the murders.
The documents revealed that he discussed with the woman how University of Idaho students were about to leave for winter break and that the killer made a "good choice" committing the murders at that time.
Kohberger also suggested the murders could have been a "one-and-done" act, signaling that he didn't expect the perpetrator to ever be caught.
Many Bryan Kohberger Murder Case Docs Have Been Unsealed

Unfortunately for Kohberger, a combination of DNA evidence, cell phone tracking, and surveillance footage led to his arrest on December 30, 2022, more than a month after the murders.
Thereafter, a long legal back-and-forth lasted until July 2025, when he eventually signed a plea deal that took the death penalty off the table but punished him with four consecutive life sentences in a maximum security prison.
With the case no longer going to trial, a number of previously sealed documents, such as the ones that revealed his discussion with the WSU female student, have become accessible.
Some of the released documents detail Kohberger's activities before and after committing the murders, also highlighting his bizarre relationship with his mother.
A few have also included interviews between police authorities and several individuals who knew Kohberger from Washington State University, where he was studying for a PhD in Criminology at the time he committed the brutal murders.
The Convicted Murderer Supported The Death Penalty

While many of the documents revealed shocking details about the convicted murderer, perhaps the most striking was one showing that Kohberger supported the very death penalty he later avoided by taking a plea deal.
The records detailed how Kohberger was a vocal supporter of capital punishment in his PhD classes and stood alone in that stance among his colleagues.
As reported by The Blast, they also revealed that he was adamant in defending his position, once using a disturbing example directed at a classmate without regard for how it might affect her.
"Kohberger asked her if her 12-year-old daughter was raped and murdered if she would support the death penalty," wrote Det. Michael Van Leuven, who interviewed the lady while investigating the murder case.

The woman's encounter with Kohberger took a heavy toll on her, as she also burst into tears while being interviewed by the Idaho State Police during the murder case.
She also told the ISP that she felt targeted by Kohberger during his time at Washington State University.
According to her, the former PhD student would often trap her at her desk and then "talk her into the ground" with his weird ideologies and discriminatory comments.
Idaho Authorities Pause Release On Crime Scene Photos After Petition From Victim's Family

More documents slated for release have been put on hold after one of the victims' families filed a petition against the city of Moscow following the release of some crime scene photos, per Idaho News.
The petition led to a judge issuing a temporary restriction order and injunction on audio, photos, and videos of Madison Mogen's room, the victim whose family was angered by the release of these records.
However, the city of Moscow opted not to release any footage pertaining to the crime scenes of any of the victims until the petition is ruled on in court.
