Cardi B has been winning big over these past two weeks and it’s been for her “Up” single. This is her first single of 2021 as well as her first solo single since 2019’s “Press.” She initially announced it on February 1 as it was teased as a big announcement the night before.
When Cardi took to social media the next day to reveal that it was a new single that would be released, her fans went crazy and the anticipation was very much real.
‘Up’ Debuts At No. 2 On Billboard Hot 100 Chart
Cardi still made history with Up as it became the highest debuting solo track by a female rapper on the Hot 100 this century. She broke Lauryn Hill’s record for her “Doo Wop (That Thing)” single from 1998. The success of Up becomes Cardi’s second consecutive top two single on the Hot 100 as well. The previous was “WAP” feat. Megan Thee Stallion last fall, which debuted at No. 1.
Cardi Explains ‘I Know That’s Right’ Line From ‘Up’
Today on Twitter, one fan asked who’s voice it was when someone said “I know that’s right” on “Up” right after Cardi said “Broke boys don’t deserve no p*ssy.” Cardi soon replied and revealed that the plan was originally to have men say it but it ended up being women. The men who first said it were her engineer and someone else she knew.
My engineer & and another guy was initially supposed to be men saying “ I know that’s right “ but we change it the day b4 the music video cause my A&Rs thought girls sounded better …I still think it should of been men its too late now.
Cardi Thanks Fans For Supporting ‘Up’
Yesterday, Cardi also took the time on Twitter to thank fans for getting “Up” to where it is. She added that she wasn’t even that worried about getting a No. 1 record but instead, she’s happy that Up is where it’s currently positioned.
“Just landed and my wifi back poppin .I want to say thank you to all my fans and supporters this is BIG for me .I wanted to beat my last solo single number & I over succeeded.First time a female rapper debut top 5 since Lauren. This is pop girl shit but I’m not pop .”
Cardi Believes She’s Been Playing An Underdog Role
Cardi also went on to say that the underdogs are so underestimated and how she appreciates and thanks her fans from the bottom of her heart again.
