New information regarding the killing of four Idaho college students has come to light.

According to two newly unsealed documents obtained by PEOPLE, Dylan Mortensen, one of the surviving roommates, told the authorities that Kohberger mentioned one of the victims before killing them.

The details of Mortensen’s revelation were summarized in a report by Idaho State Police trooper Jeffrey Talbot, after receiving an overview of the information from Sgt. Dustin Blaker of the Moscow Police Department.

In the summary, Talbot wrote, “Sometime in the early morning hours, [Mortensen] was awoken and opened her room door [redacted] and heard a male say, ‘It’s okay Kaylee, I’m here for you,’ and crying.”

During the interview with investigators at the time, Mortensen described what she believed happened inside the house that night.

She recalled hearing footsteps on the stairs, which she thought were Kaylee’s as if she were trying to escape.

Not long after, she said she overheard an unfamiliar male voice.

“It’s okay, I'm going to help you,” the voice allegedly said.

According to the report, Mortensen believed the voice came from the bathroom and “it was Kaylee who was the one crying.”

Later that day, after being given additional information about the crime, Mortensen adjusted her account.

She explained that while she initially thought the sobbing voice belonged to Kaylee, she later reconsidered and said it was more likely another victim, Xana Kernodle.

Mortensen later told investigators that it was probably Kernodle she heard rushing down the stairs, either after witnessing the stabbings or coming across Bryan Kohberger.

In both of her statements, she admitted she was still shaken and struggling to make sense of what had happened.

Even so, she insisted that the attacker had mentioned Kaylee’s name, a detail she remained confident about despite the trauma she was experiencing.

“She advised she knows what she heard, especially about hearing who she believed was Kaylee crying and the male voice telling her he was there for her," Detective Victoria Gooch wrote in an initial report filed after the interview with Mortensen.

Meanwhile, the search for answers regarding the intent behind Bryan Kohberger’s actions continues.

Recently, the killer’s former teacher and criminology expert, Dr Katherine Ramsland, spoke to the Daily Mail about her former student.

She expressed disappointment and shock at lecturing someone capable of such a barbaric act.

“I’m horrified that I had a student capable of such violence,” Ramsland said.

She revealed that she was heartbroken and stunned upon hearing the court’s verdict. “I don’t know why he did it. I just can’t even speculate why,” she continued.

Ramsland stressed that the real tragedy was the pain being endured by the victims’ families, saying it was devastating that four young lives had been taken without reason.

She explained that the grief those families were experiencing was unimaginable and should remain the “focus.” “I hate that I am in any way associated with it,” she added.

Kaylee’s Father Warns Bryan Kohberger To Prepare For The Worst In Prison

Steve Goncalves, Kaylee’s father, has issued a sharp warning to Kohberger behind bars.

In an emotional response, Steve slammed the murderer as “stupid” for complaining about inmate taunts, accusing him of “snitching” and suggesting it would make things far worse.

The grieving father’s comments came after Kohberger complained to prison officials about being taunted by cellmates in prison through vents.

He revealed the mockery would last all hours of the day and night, making him unable to sleep.

However, Steve believes the taunting is the least of Kohberger’s worries as he has been “marked” in prison for harming students.

This stigma, Steve warns, could lead to far harsher outcomes than verbal harassment.

Most importantly, Steve is pleased to know that the inmates are already making Kohberger’s life a living hell, a wish his wife, Kristi Goncalves, expressed in July during her victim impact statement.
