Nearly six years after his 2019 hate crime scandal, Jussie Smollett is attempting a career comeback with new music, a film, and a reality TV appearance.
However, Gloria Rodriguez, attorney for brothers Abel and Ola Osundairo, who were a part of his alleged hate crime hoax, says the public won't accept him unless he admits the attack was staged.
Despite settling with Chicago, Jussie Smollett maintains his innocence while the Osundairos say they want the truth.
Attorney for Osundairo Brothers Urges Jussie Smollett To Admit 2019 Attack Was Staged

Gloria Rodriguez, attorney for Nigerian-American brothers Abel and Ola Osundairo, says Jussie Smollett's hopes for a Hollywood comeback will remain out of reach unless he comes clean about the 2019 incident.
The Osundairos, former acquaintances of Smollett, claim the actor paid them to help stage what was initially reported as a hate-motivated attack.
Speaking to TMZ, Rodriguez said Smollett is making his return to the spotlight far more difficult by refusing to acknowledge the truth.
She argued that by refusing to recognize the truth, he's wasting his talent and sabotaging his own future by sticking to a story the public no longer believes.
Smollett, however, has doubled down. In a recent Variety interview, he labeled the Chicago Police Department and former Mayor Rahm Emanuel as the real "villains" in the case.
The actor also maintained that two masked men in MAGA hats assaulted him on a freezing night, poured bleach on him, and placed a noose around his neck, all while shouting racist and homophobic slurs.
Attorney Blasts The Actor's Claims, Says Hate Crime Hoax Wasted Chicago's Time And Money

Rodriguez dismissed Smollett's claim about Emanuel as "nonsense," pointing out that a mayor has no authority to file criminal charges and, at most, he could have authorized a civil suit.
She also praised the Chicago Police Department for fully investigating Smollett's allegations.
The actor was ultimately found guilty in connection with the 2019 hoax, but the conviction was later overturned on a technicality after he reached a deal with prosecutors.
Rodriguez notes that both authorities and a jury believed the brothers' version of events, telling TMZ: "Jussie is as guilty as he was when he concocted this plan. He filed a false police report."
She added that it's impossible for both Smollett's and the Osundairos' accounts to be true.
The City of Chicago sought a six-figure reimbursement for the cost of the investigation, but Smollett settled the matter by agreeing to donate $50,000 to a charity of his choosing.
Rodriguez says his actions wasted valuable time, resources, and taxpayer dollars.
Jussie Smollett Pushes Career Comeback As Osundairo Brothers Urge Him To Come Clean

Now, Smollett is attempting to relaunch his career with new music, a directorial project, and an upcoming FOX reality series.
But Rodriguez believes the public won't embrace him unless he offers genuine reflections and admits the so-called hate crime was nothing more than "a prank that went too far."
Despite everything, Rodriguez says the Osundairo brothers aren't seeking revenge against Smollett.
She notes that they simply want Smollett to be honest with himself and the public, and they still wish him well moving forward.
The Actor Says His Story Has 'Never' Changed

For his part, the "Empire" actor says he won't attack the brothers directly, even though they've made media appearances, including Fox News, and released a book titled "Bigger Than Jussie: The Disturbing Need for a Modern-Day Lynching."
Still, Smollett rejects their sworn testimony that they were the ones who carried out the assault.
"All I can say is, God bless you, and I hope it was worth it," he told Variety. "Every single other person's story has changed multiple times. Mine has never. I have nothing to gain from this."
