Kelly Clarkson's Late Ex-Husband Brandon Blackstock’s Death Certificate Reveals Tragic New Details

Kelly Clarkson's ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock's, death at just 48 years old was already heartbreaking for those who loved him. Still, newly uncovered details from his official death certificate paint an even more tragic picture.

The document confirms the former music manager died from malignant melanoma, an aggressive form of skin cancer, with seizures listed as a contributing factor.

Passing peacefully at his Montana home, Blackstock's final moments were spent surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy now marked by both love and loss.

On August 7, 2025, reports revealed that Blackstock had tragically passed away.

Following his demise, Dan Hollis, the Butte-Silver Bow County coroner in Montana, revealed that the talent manager's cause of death was natural and due to melanoma.

Over a week after the tragedy, Blackstock's official death certificate had finally been released.

Per the document obtained by PEOPLE Magazine, he passed away at about 11:13 am at his home in Butte, and his body was cremated without an autopsy.

The certificate also confirmed the coroner's report, listing the cause of death as malignant melanoma, an aggressive form of skin cancer.

In addition to the disease, seizures were listed as "significant conditions contributing to death but not resulting in the underlying cause."

Blackstock battled melanoma for three years before succumbing to the condition.

"It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away," a family rep told PEOPLE in a statement at the time. "Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years."

The family rep also shared that Blackstock died peacefully with those closest to him by his side.

They appreciated the kind messages and support from the public, while also asking for space and privacy as they navigate "this difficult time."

A source also confirmed that the Texas native was diagnosed with the illness following his divorce from Clarkson and was in hospice before he died.

A day before Brandon Blackson's demise, Clarkson took to Instagram to reveal that the father of four's health had taken a turn for the worse.

As a result, the "American Idol" winner announced the cancellation of some of her Las Vegas residency shows.

"Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas," she explained.

The singer noted that while she wasn't one to bring her personal life to the public, it was important for her to let fans know what was happening.

"My children's father has been ill, and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them. I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows, and I so appreciate your grace, kindness, and understanding," Clarkson finished.

Before Blackstock's demise, he and Clarkson had a rocky relationship. The pair were married from 2013 to 2020 and finalized their divorce in 2022.

Irrespective of their differences, the television personality was "devastated" about his illness, especially because of their two kids.

Speaking to PEOPLE, an insider shared, "When she found out that he was sick, she remained protective of him for their sake."

They continued, "Kelly has always tried to keep things classy. It became clear earlier this year that Brandon was not doing well. She's been devastated for the kids."

The source explained that although Clarkson and Blackstock had their share of challenges, he was still the father of her children, and his passing has left her deeply saddened for them.

According to them, the songstress's children meant everything to her, and she was focusing on staying strong to support them through this heartbreaking time.

Meanwhile, Kelly Clarkson isn't only heartbroken from Blackstock's death, but also the news that he was romantically involved with someone she knew.

In the deceased's obituary, it was revealed that, in the years after his divorce from Clarkson, Blackstock was in a relationship with Brittney Marie Jones, who used to work as Clarkson's assistant.

The tribute per the Daily Mail described Jones as his "beautiful and loving partner in life and business," adding that they built a life together, started companies, and worked hard to create Headwaters Livestock Auction and "what will live on as his legacy, The Valley View Rodeo in Bozeman, Montana."

Nevertheless, Clarkson is focused less on the controversy and more on being there for her kids.
