Angelina Jolie has been popping up in news headlines in the past year, and it does not seem like that will change anytime soon. 

The “Maleficent” actress has been engaged in a brutal and stretched out custody battle with ex-husband, Brad Pitt for a few years now. 

She filed for divorce in 2016, after two years of marriage, and immediately asked for sole custody of their six children. Recently, a judge announced that Pitt and Jolie would have joint custody of their kids, but the actress appealed for a reversal of the ruling.

Speaking to “HollywoodLife” celebrity divorce attorney, Michael Stutman explained why appealing a judge’s ruling is tricky.

“The burden for someone who is appealing the finding of the trial judge is really high, because the appellate courts don’t want to sit as trial judges, and to determine facts,” he said. 

He went on to say that the chances of winning in an appeal are very slim, that’s why when a court reaches a decision, participants rarely try to appeal it. 

In other words, appealing a judge’s ruling, is almost trying to delay the inevitable. 

Stutman also commented on the fact that Jolie and Pitt’s kids were not allowed to testify in favor of or against one of their parents. 

He noted that involving the kids in the custody battle would in a way tell on them in the future. 

He also said that some of his friends who are older now, were involved in their parent’s divorce. They could remember everything that happened, how the courthouse looked like and so on.

In essence, those memories stuck with them forever. 

Another Los Angeles family lawyer, who’s also the founder of Purpose Driven, Kelly Chang Rickert, revealed her views on Jolie’s appeal. 

She confirmed the first lawyer’s statement that only about one percent of appeal cases get different rulings at the end of the day. 

“It’s unlikely she’ll win on appeal,” Rickert told “HollywoodLife.” 

However, she disclosed that the appeal may result in a different decision if there is a “prejudicial legal error” or Jolie comes up with a valid reason why the children spending time with their father is bad for them. 

According to the court ruling, Pitt has been declared fit and sufficient, to continue having a relationship with he and Jolie’s children. 

Nevertheless, with the actresses appeal, the ex-couple’s days in the court is not yet over. 

While fans can or pinpoint where their relationship went wrong, there’s an ongoing clash between fanbases on social media platforms. 

While some believe that joint custody is the best option for the kids, others support Jolie’s assertion that Pitt should not be involved in his children’s lives.
