Taylor Swift In Nothing But Showgirl Gemstones Called ‘So Fake and Performative’

Pop star Taylor Swift is coming under fire for some of her new album artwork.

Although many of her fans, known as Swifties, have expressed excitement for this new era, some users took to Reddit in order to call her out on her new aesthetic.

Even though the “Anti-Hero” singer has millions to spend on jewelry and costumes, some users felt that the overall look of her outfit seemed cheap.

“The nude lining padding is so bad, do not do this theme if you are uncomfortable, or at least pick an outfit that is more nicely covered with gemstones. This reminds me of a Halloween costume when you have a weird lining underneath [because] it is chilly. She had to ruin a good theme, too. Now, all Swifties will be obsessed with feathers,” one user wrote on a Reddit board discussing the alternating covers.

Another follower took issue with her hair, writing, “She also didn't do her hair?? A finger wave with. No professional showgirl would have nirvana hair.”

Other netizens called out her team’s allegedly bad Photoshop skills. “The weird part is in the other photo of that outfit, it's not lined, but you can see the nipple cover that wasn't photoshopped out,” one user noticed.

“So I'm just trying to figure out the timing. Photo with it unlined, and then said it was too much of a pain to cover things up, so they lined it? Or was it originally lined and they realized it didn't photo well, so took photos without it lined, yet decided to use one from both?” they continued, asking, “And the biggest of all - why can't a billionaire afford someone killer at Photoshop to fix both photos?”

Another fan said that “it irks” them that she is going with a “showgirl aesthetic” for her new album, because “it looks so fake and performative even on a surface level of the album cover.” They lamented, “I’m sure the music will be even worse.”

Other users felt that Swift was just responding to backlash from previous comments. “LOOK. AT. ME. I. AM. SEXY!!” one fan joked in all caps.

“Which speaks to the belief that her creative decisions are reactive to the things people say about her…” another user responded. “During her last tour, people were saying she has no sex appeal, and now she's come back with this album photoshoot, doing her most risqué looks ever.”

Another user called the covers “very desperate” and compared Swift to Rihanna, noting, “Taylor is pretty, she’s cute, but she’s not a Rihanna.”

Another user added, “So true! I think she's beautiful, just not in a sexy way like other pop girls. I wish she stuck with the more toned-down aesthetic since folklore really suited her.”
