Billy Joel and his former wife have a cordial relationship.
The singer's ex, Elizabeth Weber, is giving him all the support she can as he battles his complicated illness. However, there is a strict line drawn between them, and she does not intend to cross that line.
Billy Joel and Elizabeth Weber were married for nearly a decade before they divorced in 1982. They met for the first time while she was married to his best friend and fellow bandmate.
Billy Joel's Ex Still Contacts Him When Necessary

The musician's ex explained that she is every bit as supportive to him as he finds his way around his normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) brain disorder. But all that love comes from a healthy distance due to their history and the fact that he has moved on with another family.
"If I wanna talk to him or if I have something to say, I am able to contact him whenever I want to," she noted, adding that it is less about her and more about his wife and kids who are dealing with the illness alongside the singer.
She stressed that they have an amiable relationship for people who have separated over 4 decades ago, and their grandkids also keep the musician company, coupled with the excellent relationship he shares with her son, Sean.
"My granddaughter Ella taught Bill what TikTok was and showed him what was happening. And his relationship with Sean is important to both of them," she noted.
Weber affirmed that the physical distance between them also plays a role in their lack of closeness. According to US Magazine, the singer lives in Florida, while she lives in California.

The former lovebirds met in the 1960s while Weber was married to Joel's former bandmates and best friend, Jon Small. Unfortunately, their affair broke up the band and left the singer in a depressive episode that threatened to end his life twice.
According to PEOPLE, Joel and Weber eventually tied the knot in 1973 before parting ways in 1982. Weber explained in the two-part documentary on her ex-husband's life this year that the affair was a slow burn.
She revealed that by the time Small discovered it, Joel could not help but admit that he was in love with his friend's wife. The singer noted that following the affair and breakup of their band, he felt very guilty and labeled himself a home wrecker.
Weber and Joel moved on from the scandal and got married, with Weber influencing some of his hit songs, including "The Stranger," "She's Always a Woman," and "Piano Man."

Small confessed that he had noticed a big change in his friend's attitude towards him while the affair went on. At the time, Joel resided with Small while they hustled to hit the jackpot in their musical career.
An unhappy Weber began spending more and more time with Joel following claims that she was unhappy in her marriage to Small.
"I kept seeing that Billy was not the same guy. Something was the matter, and Billy one day came up to me, became a little honest and said to me, 'I'm in love with your wife," Small recalled in the documentary about Joel's life.
He described the discovery as a completely devastating event for him because he saw both of them as his best friends. The former band member added:
"How does he break his best friend's heart? But he said she was so powerful to him that it was worth it to him to lose our friendship for it."
The Pianist's Second Ex-Wife Reacted To The News Of His Diagnosis

Weber is not the only one in Joel's past who has offered support to the musician. His second ex-wife, Christie Brinkley, reacted to the news with a public tribute on Instagram, assuring him of her unending support.
The tribute featured a video from backstage of Joel's concert, which she attended with her daughter amid loads of naughtiness behind the scenes.
"Dear Billy, The whole Brinkley gang is sending you lots of love and good wishes for a full and speedy recovery," Brinkley began, adding that the clip she shared reminds her of how much joy Joel creates with his presence.
"You turn an arena of strangers into a living room full of friends as we all sway in unison. We all want you back in that white hot spotlight, you're OUR piano man," the singer's ex-wife declared, urging him to focus on getting better soon.

Roderick broke his silence on her husband's health condition days after his team confirmed that he is suffering from a brain disorder. According to the Cleveland Clinic, NPH is a condition characterized by the buildup of fluids inside the skull, which in turn presses on a side of the brain.
In a report by The Blast, Roderick promised concerned fans that her husband's health had not completely deteriorated. As explained, the condition typically affects older people over 65 and is often treatable, sometimes reversible.
She thanked the fans for their overwhelming love and explained that the singer is receiving optimum care thanks to the swift diagnosis. In her words:
"Bill is beloved by so many, and to us, he is a father and husband who is at the center of our world. We are hopeful for his recovery. We look forward to seeing you all in the future. Alexis Roderick Joel."
Joel and the media personality married in a surprise ceremony at the singer's estate on Long Island in July 2015. They welcomed their first child, Della Rose Joel, the month after their wedding.
Wishing Billy Joel a very speedy recovery as he navigates this trying time.
