Tom Cruise and Ana de Armas, 37, are reportedly in a relationship, which was seemingly confirmed after they were seen together in Vermont.

However, their relationship faces scrutiny due to Cruise's ties to Scientology. Experts warn de Armas may face pressure to join the church amid their budding romance.

Though there are claims Tom Cruise has distanced himself from the controversial church, sources insist he's still deeply involved with the organization.

Cruise, 63, and his "new love," actress Ana de Armas, 37, were recently spotted holding hands near her $7 million home in Vermont.

The duo, who are set to co-star in the upcoming supernatural thriller "Deeper" directed by Doug Liman, were spotted enjoying a casual stroll through the scenic town of Woodstock. Onlookers say they grabbed ice cream, shared laughs, and appeared unfazed by nearby paparazzi.

Their romance first sparked headlines in February 2025, but insiders suggest this pairing could be more complex than it seems.

While de Armas, a Cuban-born actress raised in a devout Catholic home, is no stranger to high-profile relationships, having previously dated Ben Affleck, navigating a partnership with Cruise might be an entirely different challenge.

Cruise is not only one of Hollywood's biggest stars but also a prominent figure in the Church of Scientology.

According to the Daily Mail, insiders suggest this dynamic could present real challenges for the "Knives Out" actress, with some calling it a "real-life Mission Impossible."

Former Scientologist Karen de la Carriere, once a top-ranking member directly trained by founder L. Ron Hubbard, believes Cruise's relationships are often short-lived because of the Church of Scientology.

"Tom Cruise's love affairs are doomed," de la Carriere told the Daily Mail. "There is a honeymoon period with a lot of generosity and dazzling moments, and then reality sets in."

According to de la Carriere, Cruise's partners typically begin with basic Scientology courses and spiritual audits, but things take a turn once they're introduced to the church's deeper, more controversial teachings.

At higher levels, Scientology introduces the belief that humans are immortal spiritual beings (Thetans) burdened by alien souls from a mass extermination 75 million years ago. Clearing these "body thetans" requires expensive and intensive spiritual sessions.

Speaking further on the matter of Scientology, de la Carriere explained to the news outlet how women in Cruise's life gradually get worn out by the demands of the church.

"Scientology is very bait and switch," de la Carriere said. "It starts off OK, especially when you're the girlfriend of a superstar like Tom Cruise. But then you get to the higher, confidential levels and you find out things like you have 400,000 spirits attached to you and you have to spend the next 30 to 40 years peeling them off."

She added, "So suddenly the person is entering the world of the bizarre, and that's when the pullback occurs. Who wants to be told they have to start going to five sessions to exorcise those spirits? Nobody."

Speculation is mounting around whether de Armas will be drawn into Scientology amid her rumored romance with Cruise, and those familiar with the church are split on what might happen next.

Geoffrey Levin, a composer and former Scientologist of over 50 years, believes it's inevitable.

"She'll have to be indoctrinated," he told the Daily Mail. "She's going to essentially have to learn the language of Scientology, too. Otherwise, when you go to events, it's like hearing Greek or something. The real issue is what she wants from the relationship deep down."

On the other hand, Carriere thinks Cruise may have stepped back from his public association with the church.

"You don't see him out promoting Scientology at events, and you don't see him photographed with Miscavige anymore," she said, referencing Scientology leader David Miscavige. "He's just not in that Bible-thumping phase anymore. I wonder if that will be less pressure on this new girl to get involved."

'Being Tom Cruise's Girlfriend Or Wife Is Very Intense,' Insider Claims

Longtime Scientology reporter Tony Ortega disagrees with the claim that Cruise has stepped back from the church.

He says Cruise is still deeply enmeshed in Scientology and maintains a close relationship with Miscavige.

Also, according to Ortega, being with Cruise isn't a casual experience.

"Bruce Hines told me that being Tom Cruise's girlfriend or wife is a very intense experience. Everybody who knows him well says he has energy that he could use to power a small city," Ortega noted.

He added, "Tom would run around saying constantly, 'Where's Nic, where's Nic' – he's on all the time. When he gets into a relationship, he's really intense about it. But at the same time, he brings with him all the baggage that comes with him from Scientology."
