For those unfamiliar with the situation, Richardson, who is regarded by many as one of the fastest women in the world, was arrested in late July 2025 after Seattle police officers alleged the gold medalist assaulted her boyfriend, Coleman.
According to a report from The Blast, officers claimed Richardson and Coleman were engaged in an altercation when Richardson allegedly pushed Coleman so hard that he stumbled into a nearby column.
And the claims about Richardson's unsavory behavior do not stop there.
Officers also alleged that, during the altercation inside the Seattle airport, Coleman attempted to remove himself from the situation on multiple occasions; however, he was unsuccessful in doing so due to Richardson's behavior.
Law enforcement also alleged that the track and field star threw a pair of headphones at Coleman during their encounter.
Police documents stated that Coleman refused to press charges and told officers that he "declined to be a victim."
Coleman Speaks Out On Richardson's Arrest For Alleged Domestic Violence

Speaking with reporters after the news of Richardson's arrest became public, Coleman opened up about the situation and expressed his disappointment with how the events unfolded.
"For me personally, I feel like it was a sucky situation all round," Coleman told reporters, according to USA Today. "I don't feel like she should have been arrested. I mean, people have discussions and emotions and stuff like that."
Coleman also brought up the immense amount of pressure Richardson has faced over the last few years, explaining that she "has things that she needs to work on for herself."
"So do I, so do you, so does everybody. But I'm the type of guy who's in the business of extending grace, and mercy and love," he added.
Coleman And Richardson Were Involved In Their Incident Hours Before Their Track Meet In Oregon

Richardson and Coleman's airport dispute came hours before the pair raced in the U.S. Track and Field Championships in Oregon.
According to USA Today, both athletes had underwhelming performances, considering Coleman failed to qualify for the world championships after placing fifth in the men's 100-meter race and sixth in the men's 200-meter race.
Richardson, on the other hand, withdrew from the women's 100-meter race after competing in the opening round and did not qualify for the 200-meter race at the world championships.
Coleman shared nothing but praise for Richardson after they completed their contests.
"She's a human being and a great person," he said. "To me, she's the best female athlete in the world. I see it every day."
Reactions To Coleman Defending His Girlfriend Flood Social Media

On social media, many users began sharing their reactions to Coleman defending Richardson publicly, with one expressing their disappointment with the Olympian for not holding his partner accountable.
"Normalize holding women accountable for domestic violence," they wrote, while another commented, "She was gone whoop him again if he didn't say this."
A third user also jumped into the conversation and shared a simple but direct message: "Abuse is abuse," they wrote.
"This is a typical response from an abused partner," another user shared. "Women need to be held accountable for domestic violence, and let's also acknowledge the fact that domestic violence escalates. If the roles were reversed, would women have this same energy? Not at all! Let's be honest."
Users Have More To Say About The Couple's Alleged Domestic Violence Incident

And the comments did not end there. Other users shared messages of support for Coleman, with some encouraging the athlete to part ways with Richardson.
"Respect his response, what he said is true. However, I am a mother to a young man - my advice to you, Christian, is move on, it always starts with a push... we know how unbalanced it is for men and women, she may put you in a sticky situation - don't ignore the signs," someone wrote.
Another user added, "Some of yall must not have read the police report. She pushed him several times, causing him to fly several feet, even into a pole. She also threw headphones at him. It may seem simple, but situations like these escalate. Next time, it could be her throwing a knife."
Richardson has not spoken out about her arrest; however, USA Track and Field stated that it was "aware" of the report and declined to comment further.
