On August 4, the pop culture fan account Pop Crave posted two photos of the “Espresso” singer lying in the grass in a white bikini with a blue floral print. Her long blonde hair is braided back behind her as she lies on her stomach, with a golden Retriever puppy coming up behind her in the second photo.
“Sabrina Carpenter looks ethereal for ‘Man’s Best Friend,’” the account wrote in the caption. “She’s always using Lolita for aesthetics,” one fan commented. “Why is everything she does about men?” another follower asked. A third fan seemed to agree, saying, “She isn’t that hot.” Other followers loved the “ethereal” vibes, with one commenting: “She really does! Sabrina’s visuals are on another level lately — pure elegance with a touch of magic.”
Facing Backlash Over Album Cover
i’ve already seen enough so i gotta explain this cover cuz apparently y’all are acting dense: „Man’s Best Friend” is a phrase referring to a DOG. Sabrina is obviously portraying it on the cover referring to how all of you said she’s for the „male gaze”. this is how YOU see her. pic.twitter.com/tqhGHWU9fO

The “Nonsense” singer has already been causing controversy with her new album, as seen in the original album artwork. The singer shared a photo of herself down on her knees in front of a woman, who is holding up her blonde hair in one hand as she strikes a suggestive pose. She is wearing a black dress and heels for this shot, but fans still found it more scandalous than her bikini shots.
One fan seemingly defended her on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, emphasizing that the phrase “Man’s Best Friend” refers to a dog, and not a person. “Sabrina is obviously portraying it on the cover, referring to how all of you said she’s for the ‘male gaze.’ This is how YOU see her,” they wrote, seemingly hinting that the singer was only sexualizing herself on the cover because she knows that’s how she is often portrayed by the media.

The post received many comments, including one that read, “I think people should know by now that Sabrina always runs with what people make her out to be? She did it when people called her a slut after the dl drama. She did it when she was body shamed by making being short part of her brand. She's clearly doing it now.”
However, not everyone agreed. “Doing exactly what male gaze is and calling it ‘empowering’ and how much Sabrina is a ‘man hater slay queen’ is not the flex you think it is, but go off,” another user chimed in. The OP replied to this comment, writing, “I did not learn English to read this bullsh-t lol.”
‘It’s Not Hard To Grasp The Concept At All’

Other followers seemingly agreed with the take. “Literally showing how men try and control her and treat her like a ‘b-tch’ which is another word for female dogs, like it’s not hard to grasp the concept at all if people sit and think for 5 seconds….” one fan wrote while another shared, “I appreciate when an artist reflects uncomfortable truths back to society. Stirring the pot is part of an artist's role after all.”
Another fan opined, “Knowing Sabrina, yes, this will probably be some tongue-in-cheek take about misogyny, but this cover is not subliminal enough to work with this concept. Visually, it’s still incredibly degrading, and any situation where a woman is posing as an animal should not be pushed further.”
