Sydney Sweeney came under fire for the commercial after netizens took to social media to argue that it was filled with implicit racism.

Trump doesn't have a problem with Sydney Sweeney's American Eagle ad, and that is because of her voter registration.

According to TMZ, the billionaire politician was answering questions from reporters on Sunday evening when one of them mentioned that Sweeney was a registered Republican.

Trump, seemingly surprised that the "Euphoria" star was part of his political party, responded: "Now I love her ad."

He continued, "You'd be surprised at how many people are Republicans. That's what I wouldn't have known, but I'm glad you told me that."

The president added that if, indeed, Sweeney "is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic."

Meanwhile, many social media users have called out Trump following his show of support for Sweeney and the controversial ad.

"You know it's bad when Donald Trump praises you," an X user wrote, while another added, "Trump's approval is the kiss of death in Hollywood ATP."

Someone else commented, "So the ad's 'fantastic' only if she's on your team? Pathetic."

Trump's remarks come after Sweeney faced backlash for her American Eagle "Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans" commercial, which critics on social media argue had implicit racism.

The clip saw the actress receive criticism for a "jeans/genes" pun that some say supports eugenics and white supremacist rhetoric.

"She literally was describing phenotype and said it was 'passed down from your parents,'" an X user wrote. "She was obviously playing on the double entendre of genes and jeans... we're not stupid."

Another said, "Yeah, look, I think it's great marketing and I love Sweeney, but don't gaslight us that it wasn't actually a commercial about GENES and not jeans. It's a divisive tactic. It was a very specific play on words about GENES, not JEANS."

American Eagle Responds To Backlash

American Eagle has responded to the heated debate over the campaign, maintaining that it was about the clothing.

"'Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans' is and always was about the jeans," the company said in a statement. "Her jeans. Her story."

"We'll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way," they continued, adding, "Great jeans look good on everyone."

Many fans showed support for the brand, arguing that the ad campaign had no racist undertone.

Someone said, "I genuinely do not understand what was wrong with this ad to receive this much vitriol? Like it's a pun that's been made hundreds of times by denim companies?"

Another added, "I don't see anything she did wrong. These days, people get annoyed at anything!"

Away from Sweeney's American Eagle campaign, sources have now labeled the "White Lotus" actress as the "most wanted woman in America since Madonna," following her recent split from longtime partner Jonathan Davino.

According to The Sun, Sweeney's DM is full of famous men, including some known football stars, looking to get a chance to go on a date with her. However, she has reportedly declined their offer and is said to be casually dating in America.

"Her Instagram DMs are packed with messages from famous men trying to get in contact with her," a source told the news outlet. "It's mostly guys playing for teams like Manchester United, Liverpool, and Arsenal."

"They offer her trips to Europe to see them and take her on a date, but she's not the kind of person who does that," the insider said, noting that some of them are "very insistent" and have "tried to find her address to send her flowers, but she always refuses."

"I'd say more than 100 people, from celebs to millionaires or very rich people from the Middle East and Asia, contact her every month," they added.

The source went further to note that Sweeney doesn't take it lightly with those who misbehave and recently blocked a Hollywood actor who was rude to her after she declined his offer.

"The ones who cross the line of respect are quickly blocked," the insider shared. "Not long ago, an American actor who had recently divorced approached her to take her on a date."

They added, "She declined, and he started being very rude, so she told him to stop talking to her and to show some respect to her and all women."
