The podcast appearance comes as Franco is busy promoting his latest film, "Together," a gleefully gutsy body-horror comedy that he co-stars in with wife Alison Brie.

The movie, now in theaters, follows a complacent, discontented couple whose bodies begin to fuse after a hiking trip goes terribly wrong. Early audiences have described the film as both hilarious and traumatizing, exactly the kind of reaction Franco and Brie hoped for.

"Last night, two people came up to us, and one of them said, 'I was sobbing. I want a love like that,'" Brie revealed in a recent interview, per USA Today. "And the other person said, 'I was horrified!'" Franco, who tied the knot with Brie in 2017 after five years of dating, laughed, adding that a friend texted him afterward: "I am so glad I'm single."

Brie and Franco are no strangers to mixing their personal and professional lives. The couple has previously collaborated on projects like "The Rental" and "Somebody I Used to Know," but their latest film pushes those creative boundaries even further.

The pair were especially drawn to how director Dave Shanks flipped the typical relationship dynamic on its head, portraying Millie as the pragmatic breadwinner while Tim leans into his artistic pursuits. For the actors, the film's surreal body horror offered a sharp metaphor for the messy realities of long-term relationships.

"When something insane is happening to your body, it's maybe the most terrifying thing because there's nowhere to go," Franco explained. "This movie is taking these fears of monogamy and toxic codependency and extrapolating it to its craziest conclusions."

Brie agreed, adding that the chaos of the characters' relationship allowed them to dive into themes often avoided in traditional romantic films.

"When this couple finally realizes they shouldn't be together, it's too late. Now their bodies won't let them," she said. "We're not being subtle about the codependent metaphor, but it's fun to watch things that are truly outrageous, and then leave the theater able to have a real conversation about things that might be going on in your life."

That same sense of vulnerability carried over into Franco's appearance on "Call Her Daddy," where host Alex Cooper wasted no time diving into his personal life.

"OK, so do you want to start with your sex life or your childhood drama?" she teased, prompting a wide-eyed Franco to laugh and respond, "Jesus Christ."

Franco admitted that opening up in such a candid way doesn't always come naturally. "I generally am [a private person], which makes doing promo for any movie a little strange because it's not me in my element," he explained.

"But at the same time, I've also gotten much better at this, where I recognize this is a big part of my job and I'm just going to lean in and I'm going to do my best," the actor added. "And I'm going to be as vulnerable as I can be."
