A Reminder Of 'That' Safety Pin Dress Elizabeth Hurley Wore

Elizabeth Hurley and her plunging safety pin dress this month returned to the news as the 55-year-old made a guest appearance on new "People in the '90s" podcast. The model, actress, and swimwear designer, who largely spoke of her relationship with actor Hugh Grant, had the hosts weak at the knees with talk of "that" dress, though. In 1994, a largely-unknown Hurley wound up plastered all over the press for attending a premiere in a Versace number now known as "that" dress. See why below.

Scroll for the dress, one that search engine Google seemingly has covered as it anticipates what people type when they search "Elizabeth Hurley." The "Austin Powers" actress, admitting on the podcast that she had nothing to wear for the "Four Weddings And a Funeral" premiere, even revealed that she'd gotten public transport to go see a stylist. The blue-eyed beauty was handed the dress in a bag and with zero idea of what the look would really be - or how iconic it would become.

Strapless, very deep-cut, cut-out, and held together by gold safety pins, the double-strapped and sideless dress came in black stretch silk. Hurley and then-boyfriend Hugh rocked up to Piccadilly for the premiere, and it was the launching moment for the star who went onto date the "Bridget Jones" actor for 13 years.

"It only just managed to conceal her impressive breasts," Harper's Bazaar reported in 2019 as Liz recreated the look 25 years after first stepping out in it. More photos after the snap.

Recalling the headline-making night, Liz told the magazine: “I remember going to an office where they literally fished a dress out of a white plastic bag,” adding:

“I took it home and did my own hair and makeup, fighting Hugh for the mirror, which wasn’t even full-length, in our tiny one-bedroom flat. It was all very unglamorous compared to how things get done these days.”

Elizabeth was 53 when she slipped back into a similar, and thigh-slit number in a smoldering shoot. Scroll for more photos.

Also addressed on the podcast was Liz's famous ex Hugh. The 1987-commenced former couple, one of the '90s golden ones, remains close: Hugh is godfather to Liz's 19-year-old son Damian.

“I’m still extremely good friends with Hugh. You know, we went through so much together,” Hurley said. "We haven't been romantically involved for 20 years, I don’t think, even though we have such a strong friendship."

"You can't just, sort of live in a lovely, rosy mist of the past. You have to move with the times and be very respectful of the present, which we are," she added. Scroll for the famous bikini body.
