Owen Wilson Reveals ‘Wedding Crashers’ Sequel Is Delayed

It’s summer and you know what that means, it’s WEDDING SEASON!

Rule number one, never leave a fellow crasher behind; however, it appears all crasher fans are getting this such treatment.

“Wedding Crashers” hit theatres in 2005 and has been a comedy staple in the cinematic universe since.

Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn portrayed best friends who crashed weddings in their free time.

The goal of each crash was to get a woman in bed with them, or in the words of Secretary Cleary played by the great Christopher Walken, “another notch on their belt.”

A sequel to the beloved wedding-themed comedy was due to begin production this summer, but all hope for that is dwindling!

The sequel would reunite Wilson, Vaughn, Isla Fisher and Rachel McAdams on-screen. Wilson and McAdams played love interests while Vaughn and Fisher had tied the knot.

The last we saw of the foursome was them riding off into the sunset to crash a wedding as a traveling family band.

While speaking to Variety, Wilson revealed that progress on the sequel is still in the very early planning stages.

Now before you start crying, remember, “rule number six, do not sit in the corner and sulk. It draws attention to you in a NEGATIVE way.”

Wilson further revealed that director David Dobkin has been working on something and in communication with Vaughn, but progress on the project has not progressed much farther than that.

It appears the entire cast wants to make the best sequel possible and this could be part of the delay.

“If we all agree that we have a good idea, then we’re trying to make something good,” Wilson said of creating a sequel.

But as mentioned before there is a bit of apprehension from the cast, because it will be pretty hard to top the original film.

“It’s sort of figuring out what that idea would be and if we think we could do something worthwhile,” Wilson shared with Variety.

Vaughn echoed a similar sentiment on June 7 during an interview with Yahoo Entertainment.

I appreciate their feelings on creating a sequel, but I have to say it’s time to ‘lock it up!’

News about a sequel has been circulating for years with Fisher putting the idea out there during an appearance on the “Today” show in 2016.

Dobkin also fueled rumors of a sequel in 2014 while in a Quora forum. The director revealed that he had brainstormed an idea for a sequel with Wilson and Vaughn that involved Daniel Craig in a speedo.

‘That’s it, that’s it, that’s it, that’s it!’

I guess the one question that remains is, “MAAAAA, the meatloaf?”
