R&B legend Smokey Robinson's return to music continues to be dampened by sexual assault allegations.
The singer, best known as the frontman of the Motown vocal group the Miracles, recently received his fifth sexual battery claim after four former employees accused him of the same crime. The latest alleged victim filed her allegations anonymously, like the other women.
Smokey Robinson's alleged crimes surfaced after his splashy return to music with the album "What the World Needs Now." His initial accusers claimed they worked as his housekeepers and named his wife, Frances Robinson, an accomplice for allegedly allowing her husband to abuse them.
Fifth Accuser Pops Up In Smokey Robinson's Sexual Battery Case

According to law enforcement sources, a fifth Jane Doe has filed sexual battery allegations against Smokey. The alleged victim penned her grievances against the singer in a police report at the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Malibu/Lost Hills station.
Sources noted that she spoke to a deputy last Wednesday, adding that the other four accusers have also filed reports with the LASD. All five women alleged Smokey had assaulted them, with the initial accusations sparking a criminal investigation by the department's Special Victims Bureau in May.
Smokey's attorney, Christopher Frost, implied they were not surprised by the latest allegations. The legal rep told TMZ, "No matter how untrue, news like this might emerge. It's one of the risks of being a celebrity that others will take the same approach."
The Motown Singer Is Focused On Proving His Innocence

The attorney claimed Smokey wasn't afraid of undergoing a criminal investigation, claiming he welcomed it as it would help prove his innocence. On the other hand, Frost argued that the accusers were cowards hiding behind the system to tarnish the singer's reputation.
"The Does and their lawyers have taken a hit and run approach – making allegations against a beloved 85-year-old cultural icon and subsequently refusing to reveal their identities or unequivocally sit for a deposition, where the truth can actually be determined," the legal rep stressed.
Frost previously claimed the initial four accusers had filed a $50 million civil lawsuit against Smokey before dropping their police reports. He labeled their actions strategic, noting that the police filing did not make their claims legitimate.
The Cultural Icon Vehemently Denied The Allegations

The sexual battery drama began in May, with The Blast reporting that four former employees had accused Smokey of repeatedly assaulting them during their employment. However, the media personality and his wife, Frances, vehemently denied their ex-housekeepers' claims.
The Robinson couple stressed that they have always treated their staff like family, and the four women weren'tan exception. They claimed they had a great relationship with the group and demanded $500 million in compensation for the defamatory claims.
Smokey and Frances defended their innocence with proof of their alleged friendship with the women, citing the numerous gifts they received. The list included concert tickets, dental work payments, and even a free vacation to Cabo for Smokey's birthday.
An Alleged Victim Named The Entertainer's Wife In Their Lawsuit

One of the four alleged victims called out Frances in the lawsuit, claiming she was aware of her husband's abuse but did nothing to help them. The accuser argued that Smokey's wife was an accomplice for enabling him.
The woman claimed that Frances would leave the house for hours for reasons such as getting her nails done, which allowed Smokey to harass her. She was also accused of creating a toxic work environment by using abusive language and raising her voice.
The sexual battery allegations came two years after Smokey confessed he had an affair with legendary singer Diana Ross. The Blast shared that the illicit relationship occurred during the record producer's first marriage to Claudette Rogers.
Smokey Robinson Once Claimed He Couldn't Control Who He Loved

During a 2023 interview, Smokey revealed he was unfaithful during his first marriage. He seemingly defended the affair with Ross as something beyond his control, claiming neither had chased after the other and simply fell in love.
"If we could control love, nobody would love anybody. Nobody would take that chance. Why would you put your heart out there for somebody to hurt you like that and make you able to have those feelings?" Smokey argued. He added that he loved his ex-wife at the time but still had feelings for Ross.
Despite this shocking revelation, Smokey's status as a music icon remains cemented in history. He returned to music in April with a new album after a years-long hiatus, telling CBS News:
"I want people to be inspired to care about each other and to love each other and to be — like the song 'Be Thankful [for What You've Got]'."
