It doesn't look like George Santos will be missed on the outside.

The former congressman's journey to officially begin his lengthy prison sentence today, Friday, July 25, 2025, has garnered widespread reactions, with observers commenting on his epic fall from grace.

George Santos pleaded guilty to felony wire fraud and identity theft charges last August. The former congressman confessed to filing false campaign finance reports and charging donors on credit cards under false pretenses.

The former congressman will reportedly pay over $370,000 in restitution and $200,000 in forfeiture, in addition to his seven-year and three-month prison sentence. The expelled lawmaker represented parts of Queens and Long Island, New York, for 11 months in the hallowed chambers.

Santos was kicked out after the House Ethics Committee found him guilty of exploring various unethical means, including his "House candidacy," to facilitate financial gains and enrich his personal treasury.

The former congressman reportedly fraudulently received unemployment benefits for years before he ran for Congress- well, the ghost of his past antics came to haunt him.

Despite referencing various economic exploits with the help of his experience at various Wall Street establishments, USA Today confirmed that he was uncovered as a con artist who bore no connection to these firms.  

He also did not receive degrees from the colleges he was affiliated with and was not Jewish. However, he clarified that his Jewish ties were from his Brazilian mother's Jewish family background.

X users did not hesitate to dance on Santos' grave as news dropped that he would begin his sentence at a federal facility today. One person hilariously wrote:

"Oh-oh...  From Congress to concrete - Santos just made history in reverse. The lies lasted longer than his freedom."

Another X subscriber mocked him for faking virtually everything about himself but making the exception at a "not guilty" verdict. A third commenter declared that the convicted should remain behind bars, suffering the consequences of his actions forever.

Another commenter added that his lies have finally caught up with him and "now he's paying the price in silence." Someone else predicted that the congressman will most likely be released from prison with "a skincare line and a memoir titled, "I lied and I'd do it again."

Santos Was Vocal About His Safety Concerns In Prison

The 37-year-old had made some preparations for his prison entry, as reported by The Blast back in May. He admitted that he was worried about safety and protection in prison, noting that the Bureau of Prisons would face severe consequences should he be messed with.

Santos expressed that he had no interest in becoming a “BOP statistic,” since prison inmates often suffered physical and sexual assault. He resolved with his team to intensify efforts on requesting protective custody while they pushed for pardon, clemency, and a possible reduction in sentencing.

The lawmaker admitted that he was nursing anxiety and fear for his future in jail as the date approached, but spending time with his family and keeping a low profile was helping him get by.

Santos was booted out of Congress with a bipartisan vote where 105 republicans joined in favor of expelling him, bringing the motion to a 311-114 tally. The Blast noted that Santos had earlier declared he would not run for re-election when calls for his resignation peaked following the disclosure of his past crimes.

The former lawmaker acknowledged his removal but warned the house about the dangers of setting such a crooked legacy for themselves. Santos officially joined five other lawmakers to become the sixth to be expelled in American history.

He voiced his intention to part ways with all privileges of the house which were available to him as a non-member, noting that he “had no skin in the game.”

Alongside his array of accusations, such as fraud schemes and violating campaign laws, Santos also allegedly siphoned funds meant for a disabled, ailing service dog belonging to a veteran who served in the Iraq war.

A sum of $3,000 was raised on behalf of his pet via a GoFundMe account opened by Santos, but the page soon went inactive, and Santos became unreachable.

Thepolitician did not take long to put his congressional woes behind him, barely six months after he was expelled. He hopped on TikTok to revive his once-famous drag queen character, Kitara, to entertain his fans.

The character informed fans that Santos finally brought him out of the closet after tossing her away for nearly two decades. Fans offered their two cents on his surprising move, with the majority claiming he had run out of money to fund his lifestyle.

Before this reincarnation, Santos had appeared visibly slimmer compared to his previous look, and he allegedly credited Ozempic for working its magic on his trim appearance, according to a source.
