The attorney for the Goncalves family has claimed that Bryan Kohberger used a second weapon in the killing of Kaylee Goncalves.

Kaylee was one of four victims murdered by the former PhD student in their off-campus home in Idaho in November 2022. The family's attorney alleged that the secondary weapon caused the blunt force trauma seen all over Kaylee's face, adding that authorities still remain unsure about its identity.

Meanwhile, recently unsealed records revealed that Bryan Kohberger used his primary weapon, a knife, to stab Kaylee more than 20 times during the night of the murder.

In a post-sentencing interview with NewsNation's "Banfield," the Goncalves family attorney suggested that the Ka-Bar knife allegedly used by Bryan Kohberger to kill Kaylee Goncalves is not the only weapon involved in the November 2022 attack.

Sharing his theory, attorney Shanon Gray stated, "There was blunt force trauma to Kaylee's face," which appeared inconsistent with what could have been caused solely by the knife or Kohberger's hands.

"There was a second, some sort of weapon that was used against her face, and the investigators didn't know what that was and couldn't figure it out," he added. "When they're referencing the second weapon aspect of it, it's that because of the blunt force trauma that was … to her face and her mouth area."

Goncalves also noted that, despite the years that have elapsed since Kohberger's capture, no information has surfaced about the secondary weapon.

"There was something that was used, and they … don't know what it is," Gray further remarked.

On the night of the murders, Kohberger stabbed Kaylee more than 20 times, according to newly released documents reported by the New York Post.

When officers found her body in the third-floor bedroom of the off-campus home, she was so brutally injured that they couldn't recognize her.

"Kaylee was unrecognizable as her facial structure was extremely damaged," the docs read, further noting that the victim's lung, liver, and various arteries were pierced by the killer's blade.

The same documents revealed that Xana Kernodle, another of the four victims Kohberger brutally murdered, suffered even worse at his hands.

She was stabbed more than 50 times, with two of the wounds to the heart and some on her hand.

It was also revealed that Kernodle had tried to defend herself against her murderer, which seemingly explained why she had more stab wounds.

"I looked inside the bedroom Xana was lying in and it was obvious an intense struggle had occurred," an officer's statement from the docs revealed.

During the sentencing for Kohberger on Wednesday, Kaylee's family delivered powerful victim impact statements, with many of their comments directed at their daughter's killer.

Kaylee's sister, Alivea Goncalves, slammed the Idaho killer as "insecure," "not profound," and "pathetic."

"You aren't special or deep, not mysterious or exceptional. Don't ever get it twisted again," she further mocked the cold-blooded killer, per USA Today.

Kaylee's father, who had previously criticized the plea deal agreement prosecutors reached with Kohberger, also had strong words for the 30-year-old, according to the New York Post.

Steve Goncalves described him as a "complete joke" who was "foolish," "careless," and "stupid," seemingly referencing how Kohberger left a trail of evidence that led to his capture.

Kaylee's mother, Kristi Goncalves, also trashed Kohberger, but it was a message sent from her youngest daughter, Aubrie, that stood out and caused a stir online.

"Quick message from our youngest daughter," Kristi said. "Aubrie wanted to say, 'You may have received As in high school, but you're gonna be getting big Ds in prison."

After his sentencing, Kohberger was not returned to the Ada County Jail, where he had been held, but was instead transferred to the custody of the Idaho Department of Corrections.

For approximately the next two weeks, he is expected to undergo a series of evaluations.

"Once in IDOC custody, the person goes through a reception and diagnostic process (RDU) to evaluate their needs and determine appropriate housing placement," a rep told People Magazine about why Kohberger will be evaluated.

"We wait until a person completes RDU to determine their classification or housing placement," they added.

Upon placement, Kohberger will begin serving his four consecutive life terms for the murder of Kaylee, Kernodle, Madison Mogen, and Ethan Chapin. He also received an additional sentence of several years for burglary in connection with the murders.
