Miranda Cosgrove Says 'iCarly' Revival Will Address Jennette McCurdy’s Absence!

The “iCarly” revival is only a few weeks away from premiering, and millennials across the globe are beyond excited.

The revival will see Miranda Cosgrove reprise the role of ‘Carly Shay’ along with her trusted sidekicks, Nathan Kress as ‘Freddie Benson’ and Jerry Trainor as ‘Spencer Shay.’

Fans of the beloved show will notice Carly’s (Cosgrove) BFF ‘Sam Puckett,' played by Jennette McCurdy, will not be reuniting with the cast.

Die-hard fans of the show have known for quite some time that neither McCurdy nor her character would appear in the revival.

McCurdy has been very outspoken about her time on the Nickelodeon show and spin-off series, “Sam & Catt,” where she starred alongside Ariana Grande as ‘Cat Valentine.’ McCurdy actually quit acting all together after appearing on “Sam & Cat.”

Back in March, McCurdy spoke out about her “hellish” time on Nickelodeon and the impact it had on her mental health.

On her podcast “Empty Inside,” McCurdy detailed the resentment and shame she felt for her child stardom.

On the episode she said, "I was a famous 19-year-old … but I was deeply unhappy.”

She went on to explain that she really resented her life because the projects she was working on were unfulfilling. People often associated McCurdy with her character rather than who she truly was.

McCurdy went on to say, " ... It's a difficult thing to say because the shows that I was on were so loved by so many people and so many kids. I hear constantly that, 'You made my childhood,' and I think it's great that they had that experience but that just was not my experience."

Looking back on her career, McCurdy called her acting “pointless and shallow.”

Given McCurdy is definitely not making any guest appearances or surprise cameos, this got many “iCarly” fans wondering if/how the show-runners will incorporate Sam into the revival.

Lucky for them, Cosgrove addressed this question during an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

The “iCarly” cast is currently making the press rounds to promote the revival which debuts on Paramount+ on Thursday, June 17. The first three episodes will drop on the 17th followed by one episode per week thereafter.

When asked, “Will 'iCarly' address the absence of Carly's best friend Sam Puckett,” Cosgrove said, “Definitely, we touch a lot on the whole relationship with Sam and where Sam's at in the pilot episode.”

And Sam won’t just get a quick mention, she will be talked about throughout the season.

"And then we mention her a little bit throughout the season, so we'll definitely explain that on the show," said Cosgrove.
