The lead federal prosecutor in the sex trafficking case against Sean "Diddy" Combs was fired from the Justice Department barely weeks after the rapper was acquitted of the more serious crimes.

Maurene Comey has since spoken up, saying she was fired from her office "without reason" and that the move to ax her would only sow alarm.

Sean "Diddy" Combs' sentencing has been scheduled for October, but there are talks that he may still secure the maximum sentence on his prostitution-related charges.

The lead prosecutors in Diddy's federal trial have been booted out weeks after his trial ended.

The "Finna Get Loose" rapper faced charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution. However, after nearly two months of trial, he was found not guilty of the more serious sex trafficking and racketeering charges but was convicted on two counts of prostitution-related charges.

A mere two weeks after the ruling, the lead prosecutor in the case, Maurene Comey, was fired; however, it remains unclear whether her dismissal was related to the rapper's high-profile trial or other cases she was involved in, including that of Jeffrey Epstein.

Sources hinted to CBS that she had been let go at the discretion of Trump's administration. In a memo, Comey was reportedly informed that the decision was connected to Article 2 of the U.S. Constitution, which outlines the president's powers.

It also remains unclear if the move is linked to Comey's familial relationship with former FBI Director James Comey.

The veteran lawyer has now spoken up in her defense, saying she was fired from the Manhattan U.S. attorney's office "without reason."

"Yesterday was unexpectedly my last day in the Office. I was summarily fired via memo from Main Justice that did not give a reason for my termination," she wrote in an email to colleagues, per the New York Post.

She went further to suggest that the move was an abuse of power.

"If a career prosecutor can be fired without reason, fear may seep into the decisions of those who remain. Do not let that happen," Comey noted. "Fear is the tool of a tyrant, wielded to suppress independent thought."

She continued, "Instead of fear, let this moment fuel the fire that already burns at the heart of this place. A fire of righteous indignation at abuses of power. Of commitment to seek justice for victims. Of dedication to truth above all else."

Having confirmed Comey's removal, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt rejected the notion that President Trump played any role.

Trump fired the lawyer's father, James, in 2017 from his role at the FBI after the department investigated the president's associates and their potential links to Russia.

After that, James posted a photo on Instagram that was seen as a threat to the president and is now under investigation by the DOJ.

Trump's ties to most of the high-profile cases Comey has worked on remain unknown. He's directly involved in the Jeffrey Epstein case as he has directed the DOJ to release "credible" files on the deceased financier.

Diddy's team reportedly considered asking for a presidential pardon, but Trump indicated that the idea hadn't been pitched to him.

"First of all, I'd look at what's happening," he told a reporter in May, per The Blast. "And I haven't been watching it too closely, although it's certainly getting a lot of coverage. I haven't seen him, I haven't spoken to him in years."

The president added, "He used to really like me a lot, but I think when I ran for politics, that relationship busted up from what I read. I don't know, he didn't tell me that, but I'd read some nasty statements in the paper all of a sudden."
