Kelly Clarkson is revealing that she just can’t shake off a 2005 pop culture moment including her name. The 39-year-old “American Idol” OG and talk show host, set to take over Ellen DeGeneres’ eponymous slot in 2022, has been joking around with Seth Rogan in a video clip posted to her Instagram. It looks like the bubbly blonde’s fame is very much worldwide, but Kelly admitted that people just don’t have a clue about her songs. See the waxing reference and video below.
Scroll for the post. Kelly, who has delivered major hits including “Because of You,” “Stronger, ” and smash record “Since U Been Gone,” was seen goofing around with Rogan, seemingly referencing that being mega-famous can include people knowing your name and not because of your career.
Wearing a stylish printed top, hoop earrings, and showing off the apples of her high cheekbones, “The Kelly Clarkson Show” host began: “I can be in Japan. It doesn’t matter where the hell I am, Seth.”
The mom of two quickly referenced 2005 movie “The 40-Year-Old Virgin,” adding: “People….Since You’ve Been Gone? Never heard of it. But, Kelly Clarkson’s name being yelled during a waxing, that they know.”
The cult comedy favorite is, of course, famous for seeing actor Steve Carell yell out Kelly’s name while getting his chest waxed. The movie also starred Seth Rogan, who played Cal, while “The Morning Show” star Steve played Andy.
An expert has also weighed in, bringing in Seth. See it after the video.
Film-maker Judd Apatow, who was a writer for “The 40 Year Old Virgin,” has personally given his take on the Kelly yell-out, putting the blame right on funny man Rogan.
“I’m gonna blame Seth Rogen because there’s a picture I think you have of a piece of paper with all the curses that we gave him to scream when he gets waxed. And in the middle in the column that says clean words, right in the middle, it says ‘Kelly Clarkson’ in Seth’s handwriting.”

Kelly, who is now wildly popular as she judges on singing competition series “The Voice” alongside hosting her talk show, is set to shoot up career-wise after “The Ellen Show” next year ends. Ellen DeGeneres, who has faced allegations of a “toxic” work environment, this month confirmed the end of her show after 19 seasons. Kelly will be getting Ellen’s high-profile and lucrative slot. The star also continues to make headlines for getting on with her life after her 2020 divorce from Brandon Blackstock.
