Time Behind Bars Tested The Chrisley Patriarch's Faith In God

Todd and Julie's new podcast will premiere on July 16, featuring guest interviews, fan Q&A segments, and the couple's candid confessions about life, love, and the lessons they have learned. These installments are sure to cover their time behind bars and the struggles they faced.

The Chrisley patriarch has been vocal about his incarceration, with The Blast reporting that he struggled with his faith in God. Todd recalled feeling overwhelmed on his first night behind bars, noting he blamed God for his suffering.

"I was angry at God. And when I went to bed [my first night in prison] and the lights went out, I cried myself to sleep and I said, 'God, why are you allowing this?'" Todd confessed in the ABC special, "The Chrisleys: Life After Lockup."

The TV Personality Learned From His Emotional Trial

Todd noted that he did not fully understand the value of what he had until it was gone. His freedom, the ability to go where he wanted and eat whatever he desired, where something he took for granted until it was too late. "So when you have them back, it's a blessing," he mused.

Additionally, Todd claimed that losing these things and his struggles behind bars transformed his perspective. "If it didn't change you, then you're not human," he said about his days in prison, noting his grudges against the legal system weren't over.

Todd noted that anyone could be a victim of the legal system, emphasizing that he had "no shame" regarding what he had gone through. However, he maintained his innocence, stating he would never apologise for the money he made.

Why Julie & Todd Chrisley Regret Their Incarceration

Besides losing their freedom, Todd and Julie were devastated by their incarceration because of the memories they failed to have with their loved ones. The Blast reported that the Chrisley family's matriarch shared her regrets candidly in an interview.

Julie stressed that she was grateful and relieved to be reunited with her children. However, she could not help but feel heartbroken over the time they spent apart and the milestones she and her husband had missed.

The list included her children's birthdays, graduations, and more memories that she could have been a part of. Todd echoed similar sentiments, noting that he felt a sense of camaraderie with Trump following his legal troubles. "What the media had done to us, they did to him a million times more," he said.

Following Todd and Julie's incarceration, their oldest daughter, Savannah Chrisley, stepped up and raised her younger siblings in their absence. She also cared for her parents' $1.6 million condo, but those days are now behind her.

Savannah, per The Blast, no longer wished to carry out these responsibilities following her parents' release from prison. She expressed her desire to move out and become independent on her family's new show, "The Chrisleys: Life After Lockup."

One of the reasons Savannah was excited to leave her parents' home might stem from her argument with Todd over her caretaking skills. "I was literally fighting for y'all for two and a half years and raising kids, I think the floors are fine," she retorted after he had called her out.
