Kristin Cavallari's ex-husband, Jay Cutler, is getting all the heat for this new hobby.

The former athlete flaunted his hunting prize on social media, and he is getting all the backlash for putting down an allegedly endangered species for the fun of it.

Jay Cutler's actions come nearly a year after official reports declared the giant sable antelope an endangered species in its primary home, Angola.

Jay Cutler Slammed For Showing Off His Hunting Trophy

The former footballer shared three images of himself posing with a dead giant sable antelope reportedly killed by him on his Africa hunt. The animal captured the attention of many with its two giant horns and silky brown fur.

However, Cutler's epic adventure in the wild was received with mixed reactions from fans, followers, and observers who trooped to his comment section to register their displeasure or otherwise.

"What a cruel 'hobby,' Jay. Shame on you for killing this beautiful animal. It breaks my heart," a commenter declared under the post. Another user wondered how Cutler could summon the conscience to kill "such a beautiful animal" and proudly post it.

The comment above earned a reply from another Instagram user who tagged his action "the worst kind of flex."

"I went to Africa on a safari and saw the most incredible wildlife and never once thought about murdering them," this commenter declared, strongly disagreeing with Cutler's new hobby.

A "disgusted" user expressed their displeasure, followed by another commenter who trolled his football skill, and another opinionist who concluded that "Kristen" must have left him due to his insensitivity. "I just… don't get it. Why?" Another commenter wrote, as someone else stated, "You suck, Jay."

How Did The Former NFL Player Carry Out His Mission?

A proud Cutler captured the moment he made the kill on video and shared it via a separate post. The retired athlete and his hunting guide, Victor Krull, of Tyityaba Hunting Safaris, an 80,000-acre hunting terrain in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, are seen keeping tabs on the sable.

Cutler and Krull eventually aimed and fired a couple of shots at the animal, which then collapsed to the ground in defeat. Elated, the former footballer leaped with joy and pulled the guide in for a warm embrace.

Although the giant sable antelope was ranked as a critically endangered species in Angola, it still maintains a relatively stable status according to the IUCN Red List, which monitors the endangered plants, animals, and fungi worldwide.

How The Giant Sable Antelopes Were Saved From The Brink Of Extinction In Angola

The creature, endemic to Angola and popular for its interesting build, featuring long, ridged horns and muscles, remains critically endangered with just a few hundred individuals left. Despite this, it took sterling efforts from wildlife experts to still have these animals around, according to a CNN report.

Sable antelopes became vulnerable to poachers due to their physique following their discovery in the 20th century, and Angola adopted them as its national animal.

The civil war that ravaged Angola also dealt a blow to the population of animals due to the loss of natural habitat and increased poaching, according to Angolan conservationist, Pedro Vaz Pinto.

Between 2003 and 2009, Pinto and his team made significant discoveries, including the female and male species of the antelope, which they transported to a fenced sanctuary for a closely monitored breeding process.

Today, the fenced sanctuary in Cangandala has a population of about 100 giant sables, which, according to Pinto, is still growing. His team also monitors the wild roaming population left in Luando through advanced technology, including drones and GPS devices.

The conservationist insists that despite the progress made, ensuring that the animals are protected must be a collective responsibility.

In his personal life, especially his failed marriage to Cavallari, Cutler is not having it as smooth. When it comes to raising the three children together, Cavallari shared that the former athlete notoriously lacked consistency.

As noted by The Blast, the former red carpet host stressed that it has been hard staying on the same page with her former husband over anything since their divorce.

She noted that a divorce was the last thing she wanted since she came from a home where her parents had separated. Cavallari confessed that it genuinely sucks that they are not together as a family.

However, they managed to make things work at some point in the tough co-parenting journey. For instance, Cavallari recalled them sitting together at a basketball game last year, adding:

"I was like, 'Holy f-ck, this is the best thing that's ever happened. Jesus Christ, we made it. We can sit next to each other. And we haven't sat together since, so I don't f-cking know. What the f-ck?"

Although it was not an easy decision, the former reality star revealed that she did not desire for her children to experience a life of unhappiness like she did in the marriage. This resolve emboldened her decision to step away from the marriage for good.

Cutler and Cavallari settled their divorce in 2022, two years after they announced their separation in 2020 due to irreconcilable differences. She explained in an interview that she ignored the red flags in their marriage till she realized people do not change, and one's intuition is almost always right.

The couple began dating in 2010 and married in Nashville in 2013 after a brief split in 2011. They welcomed three kids, Camden, Jaxon, and Saylor, before their divorce.

Will Jay Cutler share more content from his hunting trip, or has he learned his lesson?
