One Swiftie was not "enchanted" to see Taylor Swift perform during The Eras Tour!
The former fan admitted that they "fell off the bandwagon" after watching Coldplay's Chris Martin take the stage and noticed a stark difference in the way the two performers interacted with their fans.
Taylor Swift's Eras Tour Faces Comparison To Coldplay's Chris Martin

On a Reddit page devoted to roasting the “Anti-Hero” singer, one former fan admitted that they went to the Eras Tour and were less than impressed with Swift after seeing Chris Martin perform.
“I went to the Eras Tour. I do like her music and I don't hate her, BUT... last night I saw Coldplay live, and I just cannot stop thinking about the differences in the two shows,” they wrote, explaining that Martin was “so WARM and funny and off the cuff.”
“ I felt like I could have been hanging out in his living room even though I was with 50,000 people. He was just loving life and loving performing, and he just so genuinely wanted to share that with us,” the user explained, detailing how he interacted with numerous fans, read signs out loud, and “generally made us feel so special.”
Was The Eras Tour Too Choreographed?

They then compared that to The Eras Tour, where everything was choreographed “even when it's meant to look spontaneous.” The former fan lamented how “Every hand movement or raise of the EYEBROWS is the same. Every. Single. Show.”
After being “amazed and impressed” by Coldplay and their efforts to make sure their show was sustainable, the Swiftie admitted that they were “slightly disenchanted” – pun intended – by Swift after attending one of her shows.
One netizen replied to the post, speculating that the user had that experience because Martin was performing for his fans, while Swift made the shows “all about her.” They wrote:
“It's because T only goes on stage to be admired. It's all about her. She's not interested in the people in the crowd. Other people actually care about the music and the connection, the emotions. She's just a shallow person and that's what you are feeling.”
Taylor Swift Criticized For 'Constantly Looking At' Travis Kelce

Other people expressed frustration that she was seemingly only responding to her boyfriend, NFL star Travis Kelce, during her performances.
Another user wrote: “Something that I noticed as well was when she sees Travis in the crowd, there are vids of her just constantly looking at him. Like… hello… you’re supposed to be connecting with your audience….the people who’ve paid to come watch you!! I’m surprised, actually, that no one has pointed this out yet (or they have and I just haven’t seen it).”
One user had an issue with the way she performed “Champagne Problems” during her extensive tour. “When she sits down to sing Champagne Problems, and I thought the storytelling, etc., would be unique, chatting to the fans, etc., but EVERY SINGLE SHOW SHE SAID THE SAME THING!!” they exclaimed. “My partner was like, 'Is this for real? Can’t she go off script?'”
'She Is So Far From Being Natural'

Many agreed with the criticism, including a fan who was “destroyed” by other Swifties for voicing their opinion. “I actually mentioned this on a Taylor page, and I was destroyed by all the fans! I made a comment that she repeated the exact same line every night, every show (just changed the location), and not only that, but she did the exact same move, hand moves, etc.,” they wrote.
“The fans bit back and said ‘YeAh BuT iT’s ChOrEOgRApHeD!’” they continued. “To which I said, yeah, fair enough, the dance routines and stuff, but does she really need to stick to a script when interacting with the audience? It makes it seem like she doesn’t care or even notice she’s somewhere different; you’re all just the same to her. She is so far from being natural, it’s unreal!”
Was Taylor Swift's Eras Tour Too Choreographed?

It's clear that Swift put a lot of work into making The Eras Tour, but all of that polish comes at a price. It's clear that she had each step of the performance down like a well-oiled machine, but that's exactly how it came across to some fans: cold and robotic. Aside from various wardrobe malfunctions that occurred on several nights, Swift left little room for improv during her performances.
It actually does make sense that her early shows would be a bit mechanical. After all, critics were unsure if she would even be able to pull off such a lengthy runtime. But she did, night after night, performing multiple shows back to back. After a while, Swift should have been comfortable enough to deviate from the script instead of adhering to the same rigid formula.
The problem is that Swift has a carefully manicured image that she has to protect. Artists have notoriously made headlines for an off-the-cuff remark that they made during a performance, only to have to walk it back later. If Swift never deviates from the script, then she never has to worry about accidentally offending anyone.
On stage, artists show their fans who they really are. While some artists want to connect with their fans, others just want to hold their fans captivated while they perform under the spotlight and present their carefully choreographed routine for a few hours. Some may enjoy it, but others who connected with her music on a personal level will be hard pressed to find anything to relate to on stage.
