Sam Haskell Jr. reportedly took his life in jail just two days before he was supposed to attend a preliminary hearing to determine if he should stand trial for the alleged killings of his wife and her parents.

The suspected killer was arrested for allegedly dismembering his wife, Mei Li Haskell, and dumping her remains in a strip-mall dumpster.

Sam Haskell Jr.'s parents-in-law's bodies are yet to be found, but authorities say they're sure they suffered the same fate as their daughter, Mei Li.

Alleged wife dismemberer Sam Haskell Jr. killed himself in jail just 2 days before his preliminary hearing to determine if he should stand trial for the crime he's been accused of.

According to TMZ, law enforcement confirmed his demise by suicide, but didn't share the manner in which he died.

The 35-year-old son of popular Hollywood TV agent Sam Haskell had been held without bail at the Los Angeles County Men's Central Jail since his arrest in November 2024, following the alleged murder of his wife, Mei Li Haskell, and her parents, Yanxiang Wang and Gaoshan Li. Haskell Jr.

He allegedly dismembered his wife, with authorities suspecting his in-laws suffered the same fate as their daughter.

The Hollywood Agent's Son Pled Not Guilty

Haskell Jr. pled not guilty to the three separate murder crimes and told the judge in a brief arraignment that he understood what was happening following speculations about his mental state.

He allegedly dismembered the bodies of his wife and her parents and then attempted to dispose of their remains in ordinary black garbage bags. Haskell Jr. hired four day laborers to dump the bags, reportedly telling them it contained rocks and Halloween decorations.

The day laborers got suspicious and opened it some blocks away as the bags appeared "squishy."

Upon discovering human parts in it, they returned to Haskell's home, dropped the bags in the driveway, and returned his money before calling 911 to report the case.

Video footage then emerged of him loading the bags into his car and driving off, as well as the moment when he can be seen dumping something in a dumpster a few miles away.

According to The Guardian, Mei's body was so unrecognizable that it took the Los Angeles coroner's office more than a month to make a positive identification.

Wang and Li's bodies haven't been seen yet, but authorities say they have no doubt the couple is dead and suffered the same fate as their daughter.

"Police who searched the family home discovered blood and 'other evidence consistent with death and dismemberment,'" the county district attorney's office said.

The Alleged Killed Could Have Bagged Life In Jail Without Parole

Haskell lived with his wife and her parents at their L.A. home, and they shared three children together.

They were allegedly going through money problems at the time, with a source telling the Los Angeles Times that Mei worked several jobs and was the primary breadwinner in the household.

It remains unknown what Haskell did or whether his family supported him financially.

If he had been convicted, Haskell would have faced life imprisonment without parole. Speaking on the case after Haskell's arrest, the Los Angeles district attorney, George Gascón, shared that he foresaw no leniency in this case.

"Our major crimes division will work tirelessly to bring about a prosecution that reflects the severity of this devastating crime," he said at the time, per The Guardian. "We stand with the victims' loved ones … and will do everything in our power to ensure justice is served."

The case of Haskell's alleged killing of his wife and in-laws is one of the most gruesome that has hit the headlines in recent times and begs so many questions.

Although authorities have said little about a possible motive for the killings, Haskell Jr. has a previous crime record.

According to court records, he was previously arrested in 2008 and charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon. He later pleaded no contest to battery and was put on three years' probation.

His children have been moved out of the house and are now being taken care of by other family members.
