Musicians often express themselves through their works, irrespective of the music genre. Back in the day, rappers often began or ended long-standing beefs through music lyrics.
While some artists may compose for fun, they generally do it with the intention of passing a message across and entertaining listeners.
Good music is well appreciated by fans, but not all artists love every song that they put into the world. Not only does the music get attention from many people, it also brings the artist to the public eye.
It is possible for artists to have a distaste for their songs, and an example is American singer and actress, Miley Cyrus.

When Cyrus was younger, she was given the nickname “Smiley,” which was due to the pretty smile she always wore on her face.
When "Hannah Montana" ended, she shortened the nickname to “Miley” which later became her stage name.
