Emmy-nominated actor and standup comedian Billy Gardell, famous for his roles in “Bob Hearts Abishola” and “Mike & Molly,” is currently on a comedy tour and set to perform live at the CasaBlancaShowroom in Mesquite on Saturday, July 19, at 8 p.m.
Beloved for his relatable humor and television success, Gardell will bring his comedy to the stage for a one-night-only comedy event in Mesquite during his comedy tour that spans dates through the end of the year.
He recently had some time to sit down to chat with The Blast and share what fans can expect from this tour, how he chooses his material for his standup shows, what he loves to do while visiting Las Vegas, which he plans to do right after his show in Mesquite, and what’s next for him.
Billy Gardell Is Getting All The Laughs On His Standup Comedy Tour

Actor and comedian Billy Gardell is all about making people laugh to forget their problems. He’s taking his show on the road and making a stop at CasaBlanca in Mesquite, Nevada, for a one-night event that’s sure to get fans forgetting about any problems or stress they may have.
When asked what fans can expect from this show, he said, “If everything goes right, about an hour’s worth of good laughter.”
“This place is going to be a great place. It intrigues me because it’s called CasaBlanca. I like that. I’m a Bogart fan. It’s gonna be cool,” he told The Blast exclusively. “The stuff I talk about on stage is where I’m at now.”
He explained that since his time on the hit TV show, “Mike & Molly,” he’s lost a significant amount of weight, but regardless, he’s “still the same guy, less calories.”
“So I talk a little bit about the weight loss thing because I need to acknowledge that, especially for the people that knew me bigger,” he continued. “And then I talk about stuff like having a 22-year-old and being an empty nester now, and 25 years of marriage. And then the last part of the show is kind of an homage to my father, who really was my biggest inspiration.”
Choosing CasaBlanca In Mesquite For A Stop On This Tour

Gardell’s tour has him traveling the country, and his July 19th stop is in Mesquite, Nevada, about an hour outside of Las Vegas. The actor/comedian explained that he's excited to visit the area and get the crowd laughing at CasaBlanca.
Gardell explained that an old friend booked the show in Mesquite, and being someone who loves to visit Sin City, Mesquite offered not only a great show, but a bit of an extended getaway for Gardell.
He promises a "great time" for anyone who comes out for a night full of belly laughs.
"You're in for 90-minutes of laughter," he said. "Come on out and forget your problems. Let's have a laugh and maybe win some."
Gardell said he plans to take a few days to relax and enjoy some Vegas fun with his wife before heading to the next stop on his tour.
Billy Gardell Is A 'Vegas Guy'

Gardell is not only excited about his CasaBlanca show but is also psyched to take some time to relax and have fun in Vegas.
“I’m a Vegas guy," he said. "I think I’m going to go get a whole dose of the Strip this trip.”
Gardell said he has a few musts when visiting Vegas.
“I absolutely have to hit a brunch at Bouchon,” he said. “I’m a guy who needs one day in a cabana by the pool.” (He also told The Blast where he wants to take his wife, but since it's a surprise, we'll keep that to ourselves for now.)
Gardell also mentioned the amazing dining experiences in Vegas. Whether you want just a burger or something more extravagant, you’ll find it in Vegas. And as for gambling, he said he enjoys a little bit while in Vegas.
“I like to play craps, and I like to play roulette,” he said. “I usually win craps, and I lose roulette.”
Looking Back On His Successful Career And What's To Come After This Tour

When asked about being both an actor and a standup comedian, Gardell explained that he loves being an actor "more than anything in the world," but "standup is probably equal to that" because that's what brought him to acting.
As for favorite moments while acting or doing standup, Gardell said there's many that stick out for him.
"That's a hard question, because I am really blessed. I think 'Bob Hearts Abishola' was a beautiful show, because it just shows love conquers everything," he shared. "And I think 'Mike & Molly' is one of those sitcoms that at this point is an all-time classic."
He continued by explaining that filming the pilot of "Mike & Molly" really sticks out for him as being "one of the most special weeks of my career."
So what's next for Gardell after his tour wraps up? He's going on a much-anticipated vacation with his family and when he gets back, he will jump back into auditioning for roles.
Gardell also shared some advice for the young comedians just getting started in the industry.
"Write about who you are and what you say. One of the great pieces of advice anybody gave me early on was just make two pages - what do I hate and what do I love? Write a list of those things. Now how do you make that funny?" he explained. "Each thing, see if you can make a joke out of it. That's a great place to start."
