Halle Berry is a 54-year-old American actress from Cleveland, Ohio. She began her career as a model and entered several beauty pageants, becoming the first runner-up in the Miss USA pageant and earning sixth in Miss World 1986 before transitioning into acting. 

Although she loves to share her intense workouts with her 6.9 million Instagram followers, she has another secret to staying fit and healthy in her 50s: the keto diet.

Diabetes Diagnosis

After being diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 22, the "Catwoman" actress turned to the keto diet to help her manage her symptoms. 

"It was a moment I'll never forget," she said. "I had to respin the way I lived my life and have carried that with me ever since."

"Because I'm diabetic, nutrition has been a big part of my life," she continued. "For the past almost 30 years I have been following the ketogenic lifestyle."

Berry took to Instagram to share a post explaining that the keto diet was "largely responsible for slowing down my aging process" and helped her lose weight, control her appetite, and improve her mental performance. 

"If you're like me, you can possibly reverse type 2 diabetes, you'll experience better physical endurance, better skin, and also less acne if that's an issue. And it even helps control migraines!" she added.

Daily Diet

The keto diet focuses on consuming high fats and low carbs in order to switch your body into using fat for fuel in place of carbohydrates. 

In a new interview, Berry's long-time trainer, Peter Lee Thomas, reveals that she drinks her coffee with MCT oil added in to help fuel her with healthy fats to get her through her tough workouts

Although she doesn't tend to eat before a workout, she does make sure to stay hydrated by drinking a large glass of water with a squeeze of lemon. 

After her workout, she usually refuels her body with a nutrient-dense meal of steak or chicken with dark leafy greens like spinach or kale, along with two or three eggs.

Her diabetes diagnosis was one of the reasons she created her own health and wellness platform, Re-Spin
