Rapper Akon was the victim of an insanely brazen crime after a criminal stole his SUV from a gas station while he was still in front of the pumps!
According to multiple reports, the Atlanta Police Department is on the hunt for a suspect accused of steaming the rapper’s car at a Buckhead, Georgia gas station.
The alleged crime happened at a ‘QuikTrip’ market and gas station just after midnight on Tuesday. A captain for the PD confirmed the incident, saying, “It only takes a second for someone to jump in your vehicle and take off.”

Shockingly, the APD says the crime happened literally as the ‘Locked Up’ musician was pumping gas.
The good news, Akon was able to use the “Find My iPhone” app, and track down the vehicle not far from the locations in Forest Park, Georgia. Interestingly, the high-profile incident came just days after an Atlanta City Council member proposed legislation requiring all Atlanta gas stations to mount cameras on each side of their fuel pumps.
“It is a common occurrence. It is not an anomaly. It is a significant enough crime and a consistent enough crime that it warrants this intervention,” the councilwoman said.
It should be noted, most gas stations have cameras mounted on the building which houses the market or service part of the stations.
But, it isn’t stopping criminals from walking up and stealing cars while they are getting gas. The councilwoman is also asking people to not keep their cars running while inside the establishments.
According to Fox 5 Atlanta, police are asking for any information about Akon’s vehicle theft, and for citizens to contact the police department.
If the person gets caught, they will most likely be Locked Up…Sorry, we had to!
