Demi Lovato has taken to social media to ask their fans to stop complimenting them on weight loss and overall physique. Lovato called complimenting a “trigger” in a post shared on their Instagram Story. Lovato, who came out as non-binary last week is also in recovery from an eating disorder. The singer has recently been drawing a hard line in the sand when it comes to body image and dealing with addiction and triggers. Wanting to share a positive note with fans they shared an interesting message.

“Idk who needs to hear this but complimenting someone on their weight loss can be as harmful as complimenting someone on their weight gain in regards to talking to someone in recovery from an eating disorder.” The 28-year-old whose Dancing With The Devil documentary is currently on YouTube. Lovato shared that compliments about weight loss can keep them up all night. The actor insisted that people shouldn’t even be concerned with how others choose to look and not everyone enjoys getting unsolicited compliments.

“If you don’t know someone’s history with food, please don’t comment on their body,” they insisted. “Because even if your intention is pure, it might leave that person awake at 2am overthinking that statement.” Lovato has opened eyes with a few of their latest interactions in the media. In April, they called out a local frozen yogurt shop for falling into trends in serving sugar-free options which they also described as triggering. Back in March, Lovato shared a few pictures of “accidental weight-loss”.

“I don’t count calories anymore I don’t over exercise anymore I don’t restrict or purge And I especially I don’t live my life according to the diet culture . . . and I’ve actually lost weight,” they shared on social media. Admitting that weight loss and healthy lifestyle this time around is “different”. Instead of feeling full of “food”, she feels full of “divine wisdom and cosmic guidance Peace Serenity Joy And love.” Sounds like they have come to a place of true acceptance.

Lovato rounds out the post with a final thought. “Moral of the story: I am more than the shell for my soul that is my body and every day I fight to remind myself of that,” they wrote. “I’m asking you to please not remind me that that is all people see of me sometimes.” The post triggered fans to show an outpouring of support for them as they navigate this new and trying time in their life. Lovato has more than 100 million followers on IG there is no question this post resonates with many of them.
