Terry Dubrow Shares Shocking Reaction To His Daughter's Plastic Surgery Request

Terry Dubrow may spend his days transforming lives on TV, but the famous plastic surgeon draws a hard line when it comes to his own family.

In a candid interview, the “Botched” star revealed he recently turned down his daughter’s request for a cosmetic procedure.

Terry reflected on the awkwardness of saying “no” to family despite being the go-to surgeon for countless stars. However, he made it clear that when it comes to his kids, it's not about looks, but about lessons.

Recently, Terry spoke to E! News about the challenges of balancing his professional expertise and parental responsibilities.

The television personality recalled turning down his daughter’s request to get her lips done. “I go, ‘Uh, no,’ and they go, ‘Really? Really?’” he said.

Despite being a trusted surgeon who performs complex cosmetic procedures regularly, Terry admitted that being the surgeon-parent who says “no” to their kids was the most challenging part of the job.

“It’s hard to be a busy plastic surgeon who puts food on the table doing this, and to say to your kids, ‘No, it’s okay for everybody, but not for you,’” the dad of four explained.

To avoid being such a parent, Terry revealed that he and his wife, Heather Dubrow, prefer having meaningful conversations with their kids before making any major decisions.

“We go, ‘Okay, let’s talk about that,’ and they go, ‘Oh, here we go, mom and dad are going to make us talk about it,’” the 66-year-old shared.

Terry confessed that, irrespective of their children’s reactions, those dialogues fostered introspection and accountability.

According to him, the goal wasn’t to shame but to prevent regret. “Because last thing we want you to do is be regretful, make a decision for the you now that you will regret later and to look back and say to us, ‘Why didn't you make me work this out?’” Terry emphasized.

In addition, Terry stressed the importance of understanding the “why” of the request. He said, “If they had a bad nose, I would be the first to say, ‘Sure, but what are you hoping to gain?’”

The “The Swan” star also revealed that the same respectful treatment applied to sensitive issues such as sexual identity.

With one of his kids coming out as bisexual, another sharing that she is gay, and a third coming out as transgender, Terry said the family embraced open communication across all topics.

He advised parents on how to handle such weighty issues effectively.

“Act like there are cameras around and that you're going to be held accountable for the way you act. That immediately removes all of your preconceived douchiness you might have. Give your kids a supportive, loving environment. That's the perfect place to start,” he said.

Terry Dubrow emphasized that being a supportive parent starts with listening, not projecting.

“You may have your biases and your preconceived notions,” he said. “But it ain’t about you, it’s about them.”

Aware that his kids are growing up in a world very different from his own, Terry explained that it is crucial to meet them where they are. He is especially mindful of his “rainbow of kids,” and wants to ensure they feel safe and accepted at home.

Grateful for the platform he and Heather have, Terry said they aim to be examples of what a normal, supportive family can look like.

“We all know the right thing to do,” he stated, stressing that parents need to model the behavior they hope to see.

“If we can change hearts and minds, by showing how our version of a normal, supportive family can be, we try to be role models for these conversations,” Terry noted.

For him, that responsibility wasn’t a burden but an honor.

Terry’s interview isn’t the first time the surgeon has hammered on the dangers of cosmetic procedures on young people.

In June, he made the headlines after calling out Kylie Jenner for dishing out details of her breast augmentation without warning teenage girls about the risks.

Speaking to TMZ, Terry recalled when Jenner once expressed regrets about going under the knife at a young age.

He shared that she could have used her experience to discourage ladies from making the same mistakes.

Instead, she chose to go into detail about the breast surgery, even tagging the surgeon.

Terry clarified that Jenner’s procedure shouldn’t be used as an inspiration, as everyone has different bodies.
