Kelly Stafford has never been shy when it comes to talking about her NFL husband, Matthew Stafford, and today is no different. During a recent episode of her podcast, "The Morning After," the 36-year-old opened up about the difficult conversation she had with her husband regarding a prenuptial agreement and shared some of the intimate details of the document.

Before putting the pen to paper, however, Kelly revealed that she was wary about signing the prenup with Matthew. “I had been with my husband for a while, but I was still young and very naive [to] this whole situation,” she said on her podcast.
“We had talked about prenups even before getting engaged. I was very naive and was like, ‘I feel like we’re planning our divorce before getting married. I don’t really love the idea,'" she continued.
However, after some reflection, Kelly revealed that her mindset shifted.
“But then again I had to look at the other direction and say, ‘Well, if we never get divorced, we’ll never need it anyway.' So why wouldn’t I?” she wondered.
Kelly Says Matthew Stafford Ensured Their Prenup Was 'Fair' For All Parties

Kelly added that Matthew ensured the prenup she signed was "very fair" for all parties, stating that the NFL quarterback was "generous in it all."
As she continued her conversation, Kelly, who has been vocal about her husband's career in the NFL over the past several seasons, admitted that, for some people, prenuptial agreements carry a "negative connotation."
But after shifting her perspective, Kelly realized the agreement helps partners "decide the terms if a divorce does happen."
“I don’t think anybody thinks about it like the state has control, but they do,” she stated. “At the end of the day, the government controls that contract. So to make your own seems way smarter.”
Kelly Wanted Matthew Stafford To Have The Prenuptial Agreement Completed Before Their Wedding Day
Since Kelly felt uneasy about signing the prenuptial agreement with Matthew in the first place, the podcaster revealed they began working on the document immediately after becoming engaged.
“Something that really helped us was, the minute we got engaged, we were working on it,” Kelly said. “I told him, ‘I don’t want to get near the wedding. I don’t want to have to think about it.’ Again, at this moment I had such a negative feeling about it.”
She continued, "I knew that I loved this man and he loved me. This is what had to happen. And that's totally fine."
Kelly Has Always Been A Fierce Defender Of Matthew

Kelly sharing the details about her prenup with Matthew isn't surprising for fans of the couple, considering she's been a fierce defender of the football player since he entered the league.
According to E! News, in November 2022, Kelly broke her silence about her husband entering concussion protocol.
"If you have listened to my podcast at all, you know how big a deal it is to me. The head is not something to be messed with…and I hope as this sport develops, so does the concern for head health and the research around it," she said on social media.
"And no, I'm not ok," she continued. "I have every emotion running through me. Concerned, angry, sad, tired…all of them."
Her post came days after she criticized the league for allowing its players to compete on turf, which she believes makes them prone to injury.
"If the NFL won’t mandate it or owners are not willing to do it, then guarantee player contracts, so if injury does occur due to negligence, they are taken care of," she wrote in the caption of a post.

And that wasn't the first time Kelly voiced her frustration with the NFL. In early 2025, she slammed the league for scheduling the Los Angeles Rams' Wild Card match against the Minnesota Vikings on a Monday night, which she deemed "unfair."
"The fact that it's on a Monday really p-sses me off," she said. "I mean, also, that gives us less time for the next game, which I don't think that's fair. I hate waiting, and now we have to wait for the last game, yeah, which is annoying."
