Patrick Mahomes might be unbothered by the critics, but his longtime trainer? Not so much.

The Kansas City Chiefs superstar found himself at the center of an unexpected body-shaming controversy this week after local radio host Kevin Kietzman mocked Mahomes' physique on-air.

During a recent broadcast, Kietzman referred to Patrick Mahomes as “fat” and “an embarrassment” after seeing photos of the NFL MVP celebrating the Fourth of July with friends and family.

Patrick Mahomes’ Trainer Explodes On Radio Host Over Body-Shaming Comments

The comments didn’t sit well with Mahomes’ personal trainer, Bobby Stroupe, and he wasted no time clapping back.

In a fiery (and now-deleted) rant on X, Stroupe called out, “Send me your location.” But he didn’t stop there.

“You obviously need attention,” Stroupe continued. “If you want to see what in shape is, go make it through a practice at Saint Jo or run hurry-up offense scrambling back-to-back to back plays. You don’t have a clue what it takes. It’s not a look, it’s performance.”

Stroupe, who’s trained Mahomes since he was just nine years old, doubled down by challenging the narrative that elite quarterbacks need six-pack abs to succeed.

“Tell me what percentage of Hall of Fame QBs played well that way!” he added.

The body-shaming controversy came just days after Patrick and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, shared sun-soaked snapshots from their Fourth of July celebrations in Miami.

On Sunday, July 6, Brittany posted a series of festive photos to Instagram, giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at the holiday weekend aboard a boat with friends. In one image, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and the Kansas City Current co-owner posed together on the boat deck in their swimsuits, the Miami skyline gleaming in the background.

Brittany rocked a patriotic blue one-piece with lace-up sides and a sheer white button-down shirt covered in red and blue stars.

Patrick kept it cool and casual in dark blue swim trunks and red sunglasses, showing off the same physique that sparked the radio host’s critique.

Mahomes, for his part, has always had a sense of humor about his body. In fact, he’s embraced the "dad bod" label before, most notably after a locker room clip from "Inside the NFL" went viral in early 2024, showing him shirtless while hyping up teammates post-AFC Championship win.

“Yoooo why they have to do me like that!?!?!?” he joked on X at the time, adding the hashtag “#DadBodSzn.” Quoting himself, he added, “Like I got kids!!!”

Later that year, in his TIME100 Most Influential People cover story, Mahomes acknowledged the buzz.

“I definitely have the dad bod a little bit,” he said with a laugh. “I’ll also say, I have a great body for a quarterback.”

He went on to explain his logic, “You’ve got to have some padding in there to take the hits that we take.”

After a heartbreaking Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this year, many expected Mahomes to come into the 2025 NFL season with a chip on his shoulder. But according to the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, revenge isn’t what’s fueling him. It’s readiness.

In a new interview with "Up & Adams" released on Monday, July 7, Mahomes opened up about moving past the loss and setting his sights on what’s ahead.

“Whenever you lose, you kind of have this taste in your mouth that you want to go out there and revenge that, or whatever you want to say,” the 29-year-old said. “I feel like I’ve had to sit back and just listen to people talk and talk, and I’m like, ‘Let’s just play football and just handle it all out there.’”

He continued, “I don’t really want to talk about it. I just want to go out and show who we are as the Kansas City Chiefs.”

The Chiefs will kick off their season on September 8 against the Chargers.
