Inside The 42-Year-Old's Experience With Cervical Dysplasia Diagnosis

2024 was a poignant moment in the singer's life, and as always, it culminated in her leaving behind an impactful message for her friends. According to Billboard, Rimes informed her fans as the year began that she went in for a minor surgery after her pap smear results came back abnormal.

"I think it's an important reminder to get our annual screenings to catch changes that may be taking place within the body early on," Rimes shared.

She explained further that abnormal pap results have been a recurrent issue in her life since age 17, and she had managed it through regular examinations and close monitoring.

Rimes noted that her most recent pap smear at the time showed that she had high-grade cervical dysplasia, and she had to undergo surgery to evacuate any precancerous cells.

She rounded up her statement by encouraging women to get their annual Pap test and men to remain regular with their annual physical examinations.

Cervical dysplasia, as noted by the Mayo Clinic, involves abnormal cervical cells that appear different from typical ones. It can be mild to severe and may resolve on its own or potentially lead to cancer over time.
