The Weeknd is at an all-time career high after winning BIG at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards Sunday night, but he made quite a shocking announcement.

It’s truly the end of an era.

The end of The Weeknd’s red suit & bandaged up “After Hours” era, that is.

While walking the BBMAs red carpet last night, The Weeknd did not sport his red blazer, black button-down or any new plastic surgery which fans grew accustomed to seeing during all of 2020.

In place of the red suit, bandaged face & (fake) plastic surgery, The Weeknd went very neutral with a white button down, gray tie, black slacks, & black trench coat by Bottega Veneta.

Nothing seemed amiss or new with his hairdo.

During his acceptance speech for the Billboard Music Award for “Top Hot 100 Artist” he said quote, “First and foremost I’d like to thank my fellow nominees. It’s been a dark year and you have brought light & escape with your music, genius, brilliance and you deserve this award, um, just as much as I do if not more. I want to thank my team, Lamar, Cash, Sal. I would not be here without them. I’d like to thank my fans of course, give it up for my fans. Um, I’d like to thank my family back home in Toronto.”

He ended his speech with a zinger & a smirk saying, “I’d like to thank God I don’t have to wear that red suit anymore. Thank you.”

Diehard fans of The Weeknd most likely knew the end of his “After Hours” era was near back in April after he posted an Instagram photo of his sunglasses, red blazer, black shirt, tie and gloves, all of which were housed in a black frame.

The red suit era had quite the run.

The Weeknd wore the posthumous outfit at the 2020 VMAs, AMAs & in the music videos for the following songs, “Blinding Lights,” “In Your Eyes,” “Bleeding Out,” and “Until I Bleed Out.”

In addition to taking home the BBMA for “Top Hot 100 Artist,” The Weeknd also secured the “Top Artist” trophy beating out fellow nominees Drake, Juice WRLD, Pop Smoke, and Taylor Swift.

According to Billboard.com, “The win was the Weeknd's impressive 10th victory at this year's ceremonies, following wins for top male artist, top Hot 100 artist, top Radio Songs artist, top R&B artist, top R&B male artist, top R&B album (for After Hours), top Hot 100 song, top radio song and top R&B song (all for "Blinding Lights").

All of these are well-deserved wins after The Weeknd was snubbed big time by the Grammys & the Recording Academy.

He has vowed to never submit his music for Grammys consideration again.

Earlier this month The Weeknd told Variety, "I remain uninterested in being a part of the Grammys, especially with their own admission of corruption for all these decades. I will not be submitting in the future.”

Despite the Grammy organization announcing the elimination of their secret nominations review-committees, The Weeknd continues to boycott the Grammys.
