Anna Kendrick's Romance Flies Under The Radar 'For Several Months' After 7-Year Abusive Relationship

The duo has reportedly meticulously avoided the limelight ever since they became an item, and it is obviously working out great for them.

Anna Kendrick and Alex Edelman's relationship is fresh air for the actress after surviving nearly a decade in an alleged abusive romantic partnership she could not decipher early enough.

The couple has reportedly been going on their love story for several months now and are taking things with all seriousness. Kendrick and Edelman were spotted in a car together in Los Angeles recently, a very rare sighting for the very discreet couple.

A source close to the couple disclosed that Kendrick and the award-winning comedian celebrated his 36th birthday together in March. They didn't just stop at the birthday bash; the couple also did some personal introductions, where Kendrick met her boo's mom.

The source confirmed to PEOPLE that the relationship does not give off casual vibes, although the actress is very private with her personal life. "They enjoy date night at low-key restaurants that are not your typical celeb hangouts," the source reiterated.

The typically coy Kendrick opened up about her experience in her 7-year-long relationship, which left her a shadow of her former emotional self.

Last October, The Blast reported the actress' claims that the abuse came out of the blue and completely blindsided her until a visit to the therapist changed everything. She likened the situation to a "frog in a boiling water" situation, where everything started slowly.

Kendrick recalled reading articles and seeing scenarios that resembled what she was experiencing, but things still didn't click until a year later. She detailed how she blamed herself for the way things began to fall apart due to the blind trust and hope she had in the relationship. In her words:

"Like, if one of us is crazy, it must be me. So it was very, very difficult to actually go, 'No, I think this is him. I think this is his stuff. I turned my life completely upside down trying to fix whatever was wrong with me," Kendrick declared.

The 39-year-old noted that an emotional and nearly violent encounter opened both their eyes to how much they needed to see professional help, so therapy came as an option. Kendrick added:

"He told me one day I was terrorizing him because I was just crying because I couldn't pretend that things were fine anymore, and I just started crying."

Unfortunately for the actress, their therapist also fell for her partner's tricks and bought his story for a really long time until one day when she and her therapist had an epiphany. She also recalled her ex apologizing to her for everything he had done towards the end of everything.

Kendrick shared that she had yelled during one of their sessions, and when she tried fixing things with her therapist, he praised her for finally giving voice to her feelings.

The actress noted that everything changed in her relationship since that conversation, and they inevitably went their separate ways.

Kendrick has experienced a significant amount of romance in her life before her meeting Edelman. As reported by Just Jared, she was in a relationship with director Edgar Wright from 2009 to 2013; the pair reportedly met on the set of "Scott Pilgrim vs The World."

She was then linked to actor Jake Gyllenhaal in 2013, with sources sharing that they became romantically involved while filming "End of Watch." However, she was reportedly still with Wright at the time, so a relationship would not have been feasible.

Kendrick began dating cinematographer Ben Richardson in 2014, and the relationship lasted till 2020. The duo reportedly collaborated on "Drinking Buddies," a 2013 film.

The TV star got together with another colleague, Bill Hader, in 2020 after they met on the set of the holiday movie "Noelle" in 2019. In true Kendrick fashion, the duo kept their relationship under wraps, and it was not confirmed until years later when they broke up in 2022.

The 39-year-old confessed to feeling conflicted over what to do with her profits from the movie "Woman of the Hour," which marked her directorial debut.

The movie reportedly sparked up discussion due to its connection to real-life tragedy; a phenomenon Kendrick did not see as a cash grab. She revealed she did not consider the project an avenue for financial benefits until the 2023 premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Kendrick noted that Netflix had purchased the movie, and when she discovered the potential profits from the project, she began to consider the ethical implications of profiting from such a dark story.

The actress did make money, but she notably gave it all away to not one, but two separate charities, namely the "RAINN" and the "National Center for Victims of Crimes. Now, that step aligns more with Kendrick's principles and also shows her respect for the victim's stories.
