"Dancing With the Stars" pro Jenna Johnson is pushing back after receiving a cruel message from a social media user criticizing her 2-year-old son, Rome, for drinking from a bottle.
The 31-year-old dancer took to Instagram Stories over the Fourth of July weekend to share a heartwarming photo of herself cuddling with Rome, who was drinking from a bottle.
What should have been a sweet moment between mother and son quickly turned sour after Jenna Johnson received an offensive direct message from another Instagram user, one that crossed a major line.
Jenna Johnson Fiercely Defends 2-Year-Old Son After Cruel Message

On Saturday, July 5, Johnson reposted a message she received from a user, along with a powerful response.
“Soooo yesterday I posted a pic of me and my son, who I hadn’t seen in 4 days and lots of people felt strongly about him drinking from a bottle,” she began. “Totally fine when other moms give positive advice and I’m always open to feedback to an extent. But this woman (who’s profile pic is of her holding her own baby) decided to DM me this. What world are we living in??”
The comment in question? “Way too old for this fat r-tard to have a bottle,” the person wrote, sparking outrage and heartbreak from Johnson and her followers.
Johnson Reaches Breaking Point Over Online Bullying

The "DWTS" star continued, expressing the emotional toll of being publicly scrutinized for something so personal.
“I understand that I put my life out there publicly, which I honestly want to STOP doing when extremely rude and harmful messages toward my baby are sent to me. But are we OK as a society?" she asked. "Also, you yourself are a MOM!!!! Would you want me, a total stranger, to DM you this about your child? Because he’s drinking from a bottle??? Like WHAT ON EARTH IS HAPPENING.”
Johnson ended her message with a call for decency and boundaries. “I love my social media community on here and really feel so connected to each of you. But enough is enough with the sad trolls/bullies on here," she said. "Please unfollow me IMMEDIATELY and respectfully get a life.”
Jenna Johnson Thanks Fans For Their Support After Facing Online Negativity

After the love and support she received from her fans, she took to Instagram Stories again to thank them.
"I honestly cried reading ALL your messages," she wrote. "My heart really hurt yesterday at how vile and mean some people can be, but once again, I was just shown just how much this little community of mine on here can also show up."
She added, "Let's remember that we are all humans, navigating life the best we can! I promise to try and only spread positivity and light on my feed, and I hope you feel inspired to do the same."

Jenna shares Rome with her husband and fellow "Dancing With the Stars" pro Val Chmerkovskiy.
The couple married in April 2019 and welcomed Rome in January 2023 after facing a long and emotional fertility journey. Johnson has previously opened up about their challenges conceiving and the “shock, disbelief, and sheer joy” she felt upon discovering she was pregnant.
“Our journey getting to this point wasn’t an easy one,” she shared in 2022, noting that she had taken a break from trying to conceive before unexpectedly learning she was pregnant.
A few weeks after giving birth to her baby boy, Johnson shared, "The many emotions during Labor and Delivery… excitement, fear, pure exhaustion, and so much love. I’ve always appreciated my body and what it’s been able to help me do and create within my craft… but nothing can prepare you for what a miraculous vessel it is and what it goes through during labor."
She added, "About 30 hours of it and we finally got to meet our sweet bubba. Forever grateful I had the best support system to get me through."

Jenna has also been a vocal supporter of her sister-in-law, Peta Murgatroyd, who experienced multiple miscarriages before welcoming her third child with Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Val’s brother. Peta and Maks share three sons: Shai, 8, Rio, 2, and Milan, 11 months.
“When I think back to the pain, the angst, the anger of not being able to keep a baby … It’s funny, I could get pregnant very easily but I kept losing the babies,” Murgatroyd told Us Weekly in June. “It was a tragic circumstance because I really thought that I was going to be having one child for the rest of my life, and I had to be OK with that.”
Together, Jenna and Peta have become powerful voices for normalizing the many paths to and experiences within motherhood, from fertility struggles to parenting decisions, and standing up to judgment every step of the way.
