“It’s such a sticky situation. We’re reality TV people. In that moment, I feel it could’ve been such a teachable moment,” says the 30-year-old. She admitted seeing these women struggling after their tone-deaf choices may help some people to feel better. “Put cameras up and show these girls who have made a large, large mistake and show them essentially lose everything. Stassi had built an incredible empire of ‘basic,’ and she was losing it before our eyes and I just felt like, let’s use this as a teachable moment for many people and it didn’t happen that way.”

While it seems like Kent is advocating for Doute and Schroeder to get their jobs back she makes a good point about the friends “losing everything”. Schroeder went from being a NY Times bestselling author, adored by fans and boasting a large following on social media to being trashed online, losing endorsements, and having to resort to her family publicly begging for people to stop being mean to her. The scandal surfaced in May 2020 when a former cast member Faith Stowers revealed that Schroeder and Doute called the police on her for a crime she had nothing to do with back in 2018.

Doute had even tweeted a photo of Stowers claiming she looked like the woman in the surveillance tape photo. “Hey tweeties, doesn’t this ex #pumprules thief look familiar? someone put her on mtv & gave her a platform for press. I didn’t wanna go there but I’m going there.” Both girls apologized after Stowers post went viral (several years after the incident) with Schroeder describing herself as “being a Karen” during her embarrassing interview on The Tamron Hall Show, also admitting that she is a flawed person who has made “many mistakes”.

Doute wasn’t famous enough to get a public interview so she shared her apology on her social media platforms. The 38-year-old admitted to her wrongdoing and shared that she has been and continues to be in the process of “educating” herself on not being tone deaf. Kent vouched for Schroeder working on bettering herself. “I can vouch for the fact that she has done a lot of self work since this all went down,” and claims that Schroeder educating herself is “genuine”.
