Queen Elizabeth's relationship with Prince Harry was filled with tension in the run-up to his 2018 wedding to Meghan Markle.

The late queen was said to be "very worried" about some of Harry's decisions for his big day, as well as Meghan's change in attitude before they walked down the aisle.

Reports suggest that the monarch didn't think Meghan Markle was "in love," but rather that "she engineered it all," as Prince Harry was perceived to be "weak about women."

Reports have emerged suggesting the relationship between Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Harry was significantly strained in the period leading up to his 2018 wedding to Meghan Markle.

In chilling revelations on her Substack, Royal Extras, journalist and royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith opened up about the alleged tension within the royal family, as revealed by Elizabeth's late cousin, Lady Elizabeth Anson, fondly known as Liza by friends.

Liza was the great-niece of the Queen Mother and a goddaughter of King George VI. Later in her life, she became a close confidante to her cousin, Elizabeth II, affectionately calling her "Jemima" and her "Number One Lady."

According to the Daily Mail, Smith shared that Liza claimed Queen Elizabeth was "very upset" with Harry, who allegedly excluded the monarch from his wedding plans. She had confided in Liza that the Duke of Sussex had been "rude to her for ten minutes" in one meeting.

Queen Elizabeth was also left worried, as Meghan was not "working well" with William and Kate, noting that it was "particularly the two girls" who didn't get along.

According to the reports, Queen Elizabeth was worried about Meghan's true intentions because she didn't think the former "Suits" actress really loved Harry.

The queen was said to have been stunned by Meghan's alleged change in behavior as the former actress was initially "full of charm" and appeared "natural, intelligent, and thoughtful" after she got engaged to Harry in 2017.

However, as the wedding day drew closer, Meghan became increasingly "bossy," reportedly leaving Queen Elizabeth "very worried."

"When we spoke two weeks before the May 19 wedding, Liza had just heard from the queen. 'The Number One Lady—I call her Jemima—says the jury is out on whether she likes Meghan,'" Smith wrote of Liza's claims.

"My Jemima is very worried. Harry is besotted and weak about women. We hope, but don't quite think, she is in love. We think she engineered it all," she continued.

Liza apparently added, "It's worrying that so many people are questioning whether Meghan is right for Harry. The problem, bless his heart, is that Harry is neither bright nor strong, and she is both."

Prince Harry 'Blew' His Relationship With Queen Elizabeth

The never-before-heard disagreements are now being cited as issues that "blew" Harry's relationship with his grandmother at the time.

In February 2018, Harry reportedly wrote to Liza, claiming that the queen was "content" with his wedding preparations; however, this wasn't the case when the queen spoke to the famous party planner herself.

"When I spoke with the queen, she said she is not at all content," Liza allegedly said, adding that Elizabeth was "dismayed" that Harry had asked the Archbishop of Canterbury to perform the wedding service in St. George's Chapel without first seeking permission from the Dean of Windsor.

"Harry seems to think the queen can do what she wants, but she can't. On the religious side, it is the Dean of Windsor's jurisdiction," she continued, adding that the incident "blew" the duke's relationship with his grandmother.

Things seemingly worsened as Queen Elizabeth checked in on Meghan to inquire about the wedding dress, but the now-mother-of-two "wouldn't tell her."

It was at that point Lady Elizabeth predicted Meghan could "turn into nothing but trouble," adding that the actress "sees things in a different way."

Harry apparently managed to "patch things up" with Queen Elizabeth after he visited her privately and became more open about his wedding plans. However, it appears that reservations remained among members of his family about his then-fiancée.

Meghan's broken relationship with her father, Thomas Markle, seemed to have also affected the queen.

In her note, Smith said that Liza detailed how Thomas was "frightened of coming to the wedding," adding that Meghan was "very much so" bossy.

"My Jemima is very worried," Lady Elizabeth added. "The wedge between the brothers is really too bad."

"By late February 2019, when Liza and I spoke on the phone, she said, 'I don't trust Meghan an inch. To begin with, she was not bad—a straightforward starlet used to public speaking and charity work. The wedge between the brothers is really too bad,'" Ms Smith wrote.

Lady Elizabeth, also known as Liza, died in 2020, after her battle with lung cancer, while Queen Elizabeth II gave up the ghost two years later.

They were said to be very close, with the former helping the queen host a number of parties, including her 80th birthday celebration, and a party for royal guests at William's 2011 wedding to Kate.

Liza was made a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, an honor bestowed only on those who have provided outstanding personal service to a British monarch.
