Roy Halston Frowick is only one of the most successful American fashion stylists back in the 70’s.

He gained international recognition through his amazing styles, that completely gave American fashion a different taste especially while he created chill urban styles for American Women.

A recent Netflix Docuseries revealed several details and facts about the fashion icon’s life and career.

The biopic, starred Scottish actor Ewan McGregor, who played the role of the iconic fashion designer. The biopic also portrayed the aspects of Halston’s life that were not so tranquil and eventually what led to his end.

Halston began his career in early 1950 as a hat maker who specialized in making women’s hats. He shop at the time was located at a hotel in Chicago.

In 1958 he relocated to New York, and there he worked under Lilly Dache, a very popular personality in the millinery line of business.

After spending time with Dache, he then transferred again to another hat shop (unknown.)

His career made a huge jump when his pillbox hat design was worn by the then First Lady of the United States of America, Jacqueline Kennedy.

A few years after the first lady wore his iconic design to the 1961 Inauguration of the former president John F. Kennedy, he became slammed with demands from different parts of the country. 

In order to meet the escalating demand he had to expand his business.

It is well known that aside from the quality of the goods involved in the business, the success behind any businessman is loyal and habitual clients, and that is exactly what Halston had.

He had a good professional relationship with a range of well-known personalities like Liza Minnelli, Elizabeth Taylor, Diana Vreeland and many more.

Aside from his life as a big fashionista, he was also popular in the musical aspect during the disco era.

He was not only in close association with the then popular majors at disco like Andy Warhol and Bianca Jagger, he was also affiliated with institutions from New York such as Studio 54.

He lived a life often thrilled by partying and having fun and apparently disco became a thing where he got some inspirations for his fabulous designs.

After a while, it became all he ever did, and this helped his designs get better with every waking moment. 

Halston who was born April 23, 1932 in the United States, and sadly passed on March 26, 1990.

In 1988, he tested positive for HIV and then he moved to San Francisco where he was taken care of by his family. Sadly, his health deteriorated and he died of an AID defining illness called Kaposi’s Sarcoma (KS.)

Also, in the 70’s he was involved in some controversies, particularly the one where he was accused of substance abuse, but these claims were never proven.  

Halston’s life and career still remains a huge source of inspiration to hat makers and fashion designers all over the world.
