“Drivers License” singer and Disney star Olivia Rodrigo is now a big and upcoming name in music, and 2021 is where it is all unfolding for her in a big way. All of 18 years old, Rodrigo first achieved fame as a child artist, when she was cast as Paige Olvera on the Disney Channel series “Bizaardvark.”

From then, she went on to play Nini Salazar-Roberts in the Disney+ “High School Musical Series”, originally played by Vanessa Hudgens in the movie. Music was always her first love and she signed up with Interscope and Geffen Records in 2020, and the rest is history…

2021 Made Rodrigo A Household Name

Rodrigo’s first song “Drivers License” was released in January 2021, and it topped the charts just about everywhere. It also broke Spotify’s record, not once but twice for most daily streams for a non-holiday song. January 11th saw the song get 15.7 million streams, and the next day, it went up to 17 million.

On April 1, her second song, “Déjà vu” also debuted at number 8 on the Billboard 100, making her the very first music artist to have their first two releases feature in the top 10 of the Hot 100 list.

It Has Been A Rollercoaster Ride For Rodrigo

For Rodrigo, the success has been an unbelievable dream. In an interview, she said, “everything is happening so, so, so much sooner than I could have expected. I didn’t have any expectations for “Drivers License,” but even if I did have them, I think what actually happened would have just exceeded any of my wildest dreams.”

She also mentioned that since the song was released during quarantine, she just spent her time refreshing the Spotify page over and over again, and it was only when it stood beside Taylor Swift’s “Evermore”, did she realize it was big.

Rodrigo is a self-professed Taylor Swift fan and has said that she feels she is Swift’s “biggest fan ever”, which is why its her music (as well as Lorde's) that inspire Rodrigo.

When Rodrigo saw her song finally reach a position close to her idol’s song, she posted about it, and Swift, being the sweetest person around, commented on it and encouraged Rodrigo to soar to greater heights. Rodrigo, apparently, could not breathe anymore…

Rodrigo claims she is mostly an introvert to doing stuff for herself, like taking out time to care for her skin and hair and even applying make-up, recharges her for the next bout of work.

She mentioned in an interview in Vogue, “Doing your make-up or doing your skincare or taking a shower or taking care of your hair or whenever you're not on your phone or you're by yourself and you can kind of recharge — that's really important to me.”
