Brad Pitt Says He Has Missed The 'Window' For A 'Gay Experience'

Pitt got candid about his personal life in what may be his most revealing interview to date.
The 61-year-old Oscar winner, who is currently dating 32-year-old Ines de Ramon, joined Dax Shepard on Monday's episode of Armchair Expert for a playful and surprisingly open conversation.
During the chat, the two reflected on how they first met at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting before Shepard jokingly asked Pitt if the nature of their encounter made him nervous.
"Sexually, you mean?" the "Fight Club" actor responded with a laugh. He went on to admit, "You know, I've never had a gay experience. I kind of missed that window. But if I did, it wouldn't be you."
According to the Daily Mail, the cheeky exchange continued as Shepard reacted with mock disappointment.
"Oh man, you had me. I was like, 'Wow, he's going to say it.'" Pitt quipped back, "You'd be maybe 14th… 15th."
"I don't want to brag, but you're going to need to build up to me," Shepard teased. "I do recommend you start with some starters."
Later on in the interview, Pitt also revealed that he and his brother faced homophobic abuse growing up, including being called "gay" and a "f-g."
The Actor 'Needed Rebooting' After His Divorce, Credits AA For Helping Him Heal

During the conversation, Pitt talked about a particularly tough chapter in his life, describing how the end of his second marriage left him in need of a complete reset.
"I was trying anything and everything, anything anyone threw at me. … It was a difficult time. I needed rebooting," Pitt admitted.
Reflecting further on his experience in Alcoholics Anonymous, the "Troy" actor said the group's vulnerability helped him find his voice.
"It gives you permission to go, 'OK, I'm gonna step out on this edge and see what happens," he explained, per The Blast. "And then I really grew to love it."
Brad Pitt Praises Dax Shepard's Honesty About Sobriety

Pitt took a moment during the interview to applaud Shepard for being "so f-cking honest," especially when it comes to sobriety. Shepard was sober for 16 years before a relapse in 2020.
The "Bullet Train" actor recalled Shepard often speaking toward the end of AA meetings, jokingly calling him "an elder statesman" who blends wisdom with humor.
Reflecting on his own upbringing in Oklahoma and Missouri, Pitt noted that he grew up around men who always said, "Everything's fine," and kept their feelings buried.
"I just thought it was incredible, men sharing their experiences with their foibles, their missteps, their wants, their aches, and a lot of humor with it," he noted.
Brad Pitt Thanked Bradley Cooper For Helping Him 'Get Sober'

Pitt has previously spoken candidly about the turning point that led him to join Alcoholics Anonymous, revealing he had "taken things as far as" he could before deciding to revoke his own "drinking privileges."
In a 2019 interview with The New York Times, Pitt described AA as a place of healing and reflection.
"It was this safe space where there was little judgment, and therefore little judgment of yourself," he said. "It was actually really freeing just to expose the ugly sides of yourself."
Pitt also acknowledged that alcohol wasn't his only escape. Following his rapid rise to fame in the 1990s, he turned to marijuana to cope.
"All that attention really threw me," he admitted. "I really became a bit of a hermit and just bonged myself into oblivion."
In 2020, Pitt publicly acknowledged Bradley Cooper for playing a key role in his sobriety journey.
While accepting the Best Supporting Actor award from Cooper at the National Board of Review gala, Pitt took a moment to express his gratitude, sharing that "The Hangover" actor helped him "get sober," and "every day has been happier ever since."
Brad Pitt's Messy Split From Angelina Jolie

Pitt's drinking problems came after a "difficult" split from his ex-wife Angelina Jolie following a 2016 private jet incident where he allegedly assaulted her.
In court documents filed at the time, the "Maleficent" actress alleged that the actor "choked one of the children and struck another in the face" and "grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her," per Page Six.
"At one point, he poured beer on Jolie; at another, he poured beer and red wine on the children," the documents also read, adding that Jolie tried to de-escalate the situation and "grabbed" him from behind to stop him.
The fight escalated with Pitt allegedly slamming Jolie "backward into the airplane's seats," and also hitting some of the children who had "rushed in and all bravely tried to protect each other."
The former couple was eventually declared legally single in 2019 and settled their divorce last year 2024.
However, Pitt and Jolie still have a business dispute to settle over the sale of the actress's shares in their French winery, Château Miraval.
