Pedro Pascal Doubles Down On 'Heinous Loser' Comment About J.K. Rowling

Pedro Pascal isn’t backing down.

The "Game of Thrones" and "Gladiator II" star reaffirmed his sharp criticism of "Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling, defending his decision to call her a “heinous loser” over her controversial gender-critical views.

Pedro Pascal first made the remark in April on Instagram in response to activist Tariq Ra'ouf, who was urging a boycott of all future "Harry Potter" projects in light of J.K. Rowling’s stance on trans issues.

Now, in a new interview with Vanity Fair, he is revisiting his comment, “Awful disgusting SH-T is exactly right. Heinous LOSER behavior."

“It felt like that kid that got sent to the principal’s office a lot for behavioral issues in public schools in Texas… feeling scared and thinking, ‘What’d I do?’” he said of the aftermath of his remark.

Still, the Emmy-winning actor emphasized that his concern wasn’t about personal backlash, but instead whether his outspoken support actually moved the needle.

“The one thing that I would say I agonized over a little bit was just, ‘Am I helping? Am I f-cking helping?’” he said. “It's a situation that deserves the utmost elegance so that something can actually happen, and people will actually be protected.”

Pascal added pointedly, “Listen, I want to protect the people I love. But it goes beyond that. Bullies make me f-cking sick.”

Rowling has become one of the most polarizing figures in recent years due to her outspoken opinions on sex and gender.

While she claims to be supportive of trans individuals, critics argue her views and advocacy have contributed to increased hostility and misinformation about the transgender community. Her comments, blog posts, and support for gender-critical voices have sparked global backlash, including protests, boycotts, and high-profile rebukes from celebrities, authors, LGBTQ+ organizations, and even the stars of the "Harry Potter" film series.

Most recently, Rowling celebrated a U.K. Supreme Court ruling that, under the terms of the Equality Act, the word “woman” legally refers to a biological female, igniting fresh backlash from LGBTQ+ advocates and allies.

The issue is deeply personal for Pascal, whose younger sister Lux came out as transgender in 2021. Lux, now 32, has spoken publicly about her transition and received unwavering support from her famous brother.

Earlier this year, Pascal took to Instagram to share a quote that read, “A world without trans people has never existed and never will,” adding, “I can’t think of anything more vile and small and pathetic than terrorizing the smallest, most vulnerable community of people who want nothing from you, except the right to exist.”

Rowling, who also publishes under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith, has previously clashed with celebrities over her gender commentary, including "Harry Potter" stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, as well as public figures like Boy George and Stephen Fry.

“I realize that certain press outlets will probably want to paint this as in-fighting between J.K. Rowling and myself,” Radcliffe said in 2020. “But that is really not what this is about, nor is it what’s important right now."

"While Jo is unquestionably responsible for the course my life has taken, as someone who has been honored to work with and continues to contribute to The Trevor Project for the last decade, and just as a human being, I feel compelled to say something at this moment," he added. "Transgender women are women. Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people and goes against all advice given by professional health care associations who have far more expertise on this subject matter than either Jo or I.”

Rupert Grint, who portrayed Ron Wesley, issued a statement as well.

“I firmly stand with the trans community and echo the sentiments expressed by many of my peers. Trans women are women. Trans men are men,” Grint said, according to the Sunday Times in 2020. “We should all be entitled to live with love and without judgment.”

Several LGBTQ+ organizations have also distanced themselves from her, and fan events have faced mounting pressure to remove or minimize her influence.

As Pascal continues to use his platform to speak out against what he sees as injustice, it's clear he’s not interested in keeping quiet, especially when it comes to protecting the people he loves.
