Two activist groups, Greenpeace and Everyone Hates Elon, bared their fangs against Bezos and Sánchez's luxurious wedding. These demonstrators unveiled a massive banner at Lagoon City's iconic St. Mark's Square on Monday, June 23.

The banner featured a picture of the billionaire's face alongside the words: "If you can rent Venice for your wedding, you can pay more tax."

The activist groups also released statements against Bezos, claiming he could shut down half a city for days with his money while the general public suffered to make ends meet.

Local protesters, on the other hand, did not want the wedding to be held in their city and threatened to take extreme measures to shut the festivities down. "We'll throw ourselves into the canal if we have to, we'll make sure they choke on their wedding cake," some protesters claimed.

Others noted they would block the main waterways leading into Venice and arm themselves with water guns.
