TikTok sensation, Anna Shumate , is under fire after being called out on social media for making racist and anti-Semitic remarks on TikTok.
Shumate, who has over 11 million followers across social media, made the remarks on her burner account, @b00nanuh, commenting “I like my bacon how I like my Jews. Burnt and crispy,” in response to a TikTok comment that asked Shumate to "tell us a dark humor joke."
Shumate also commented, “I’m not racist I have an African-American in my family tree... it’s just hanging.”

After amassing an overwhelming amount of backlash, the teen took to TikTok in a nine-part series addressing her concerning behavior.
In the series Shumate admits that she was wrong in writing and responding to racist comments, deeming her behavior "dark humour” but “unacceptable.”
“The ones that I liked and commented back to were very unacceptable and wrong in so many ways. And I’m here to say that I’m sorry to everyone that I have affected with that video and those comments,” Shumate stated in the series.

After posting the nine-part series the TikToker took to her Instagram, which boasts over 1.5 million followers, and reiterated that “Once again I am sorry my apology is not everything you are looking for but I do have a stuttering problem and if I talk too fast I don’t form sentences and lose my words.”
In a following story Shumate continued with her apology by saying “To the people in my comment section or other comment sections stop calling other people sensitive/snowflakes because this is a very serious topic. I owned up to it because I know what I did was wrong, but to call people snowflakes because they have a problem with what I said is also wrong.”

Shumate seems to have gotten mixed reactions from her fans from comments like "girl bye you were 17, you knew exactly what you were doing" and "Anna, from a proud Jewish American woman, This literally means nothing. Your comments disturbed me, and I will never support you," to more supportive comments like "It was one year ago and she is apologizing for it, she is sorry and the comments aren’t helping at all."
While Shumate was most definitely in the wrong she has since apologized and put a tremendous amount of effort into her apologies but was it all for the underlying fear of being canceled?
