The talented actress shared that she underwent intense training sessions to prepare her for her latest role in the new action comedy, "Bride Hard." It represented a new terrain for her since she was so used to putting her "body in line for physical comedy" thanks to "quite a lot of falls."

Wilson noted that she trained for five whole weeks and went into full beast mode to achieve her goal for the movie. In her words, "But I really enjoyed it, getting paid to almost be fit, which is really good."

She explained that physical comedy may require her to run into a wall while being hilarious at it, but for her action comedy, it was "the actual right." The actress was shown trying out her skills with a curling iron, which she improvised for nun chucks, just like one of her favorites, Chan.

"When I lived in South Africa, basically to pass the time, I would watch Jackie Chan videos and his comic timing, and I just loved all the movies. Even if they weren't subtitled and I couldn't even understand the dialogue, I just loved all his comedy-action scenes," Wilson explained to PEOPLE.

The Actress Weighed In On The Downside Of Filming An Action Comedy

While it felt good comparing her skills to those of the legendary Chan, Wilson noted that her skills are still pretty much amateur. "I'm a little bit coordinated, but I'm no Bruce Lee, that's for sure … I just did it kind of as a laugh, I thought," the "Pitch Perfect" star acknowledged.

The 45-year-old recalled being injured on set on the last night of filming the action comedy. Wilson explained that a gun accidentally "whacked" her across the face as she got her stunts in.

She revealed that the minor accident during the opening fight sequence scene shooting left her nose split open. But above all, Wilson's faith in her combat skills is slightly strengthened.

Inside The Village That Brought 'Bride Hard' To Life

In 2023, Deadline confirmed that "Bride Hard" completed its ensemble with a star-studded list of cast, including Anna Camp, Justin Hartley, Anna Chlumsky, Stephen Dorff, Gigi Zumbado, and Da Vinney Joy Randolph, with Simon West in the director's chair.

More stars like Sam Huntington, Sherry Cola, and Michael O'Neill also made the cut. "Bride Hard" showcased Wilson in an action-packed adventure, where she fights back as a tough-as-nails spy after her best friend gets her posh wedding hijacked by an elite militia unit.

The indie feature was permitted to schedule an interim agreement under SAG-AFTRA. Shaina Steinberg wrote the pic based on a story by Steinberg and CeCe Pleasants, and Savannah, GA, served as the shooting location.

Global sales were handled by WME Independent, as funding for production came via East West Bank. CAA and Authentic Talent & Literary Agency have repped Camp, who had starred in successful movies like "The Help" and "Lovebirds."

Atlas Artists represented "Blade," Dorff, as CAA represented "This Is Us" actor, Hartley. CAA and Liebman Entertainment duly represented Chlumsky, a six-time Primetime Emmy nominee.

Zumbado, who starred in "Pitch Perfect 2" and "The Rookie," was represented by A3 Artists and Industry Entertainment, while Garcia of "The Lost City" was represented by CAA and Fox Rothschild.

Wilson Got A Second Chance At A Successful Career With Her Weight Transformation

The actress turned on Wilson 2.0 when she decided to hop on the healthy train and shed some pounds. As noted by The Blast, she described that decision as exactly what her career needed to re-emerge.

According to her, weight loss placed her on the list of actors to be considered for more serious roles, different from what she was known for. While her skills remained the same, Wilson noted that they made her more versatile as a professional actress.

"I think people see you differently after weight loss and can imagine you more easily in different roles. So I think that probably had the biggest effect," she emphasized.

The 45-year-old famously lost about 80 pounds in 2020, and aside from people treating her better, her health has also taken a very positive turn. However, she still finds herself struggling to stay in line, especially when "emotional eating" comes into play.
