As Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez prepare to tie the knot in a lavish Venetian affair rumored to cost millions of dollars, local activists are planning something far less romantic.

According to reports, the protesters have vowed to disrupt the wedding and are even prepared to go as far as throwing themselves into the canal if necessary. They also reportedly intend to arm themselves with water pistols to cause more mayhem during the nuptials.

Amid these threats, residents fear that there might be price spikes across the city during Jeff Bezos' wedding, especially if goods are delayed from arriving due to any blockade of the major waterways.

Bezos and Sanchez may be getting a dose of chaos during their nuptials in Venice.

Ahead of the lavish $7 million celebration, protests have intensified, with some locals vowing to cause mayhem at the event.

"We'll throw ourselves into the canal if we have to, we'll make sure they choke on their wedding cake," some of the individuals involved in the movement said, per the Italian edition of Vanity Fair magazine.

The group also clarified that their protest is not rooted in opposition to the marriage itself, but rather in their grievances against Bezos.

"We don't object to the marriage, but to the hubris of this technocrat feudal overlord who acts with such entitlement," they added, per the New York Post.

Price Spikes Could Occur If Activists Block Major Waterways

Local activists have also threatened to blockade the main waterways leading into Venice as part of their protest against the high-profile nuptials.

Such an action could effectively disrupt the city's supply chain on the wedding day, which is reportedly scheduled to take place between June 24 and 26.

It has now sparked worries about price spikes for goods and other potential issues that would stem from movement being restricted on the waterways.

"If they block the canal, we wouldn't receive our goods. They would definitely block the Grand Canal, which is what transporters use to deliver goods in the morning," a rep for a local supermarket told The New York Post.

"They start from Tronchetto and then arrive at Rialto [bridge in the center of the city], so it would create quite a lot of issues. The goods wouldn't arrive."

For now, it remains unclear whether Bezos has any plan in place to prevent the disruption from occurring, especially with sources claiming that some activists intend to bring water pistols to cause further havoc.

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez Reportedly Scaled Back Glitz In Their Upcoming Nuptials

Previously, it was reported that the couple toned down their wedding plans instead of going over the top.

An insider described the upcoming celebration as having undergone a "make-under," while another source, a supposed guest at the event, described it as "understated" and "not an ostentatious blowout."

The reason behind this more modest approach was tied to the backlash Bezos and Sanchez received following Blue Origin's all-female spaceflight, which many critics viewed as excessive.

"They understand that the space flight criticism was bad for a reason and are responding to it by being less 'Marie Antoinette,'" said the source.

Still, despite the cuts and trims, "the celebrations are still expected to take place at jaw-droppingly beautiful – and exclusive – locations."

Currently, the Fondazione Cini, a monastery and one of the oldest edifices on Venice's island of San Giorgio Maggiore, is rumored to be the location for the nuptials.

It has also been reported that Bezos' $500 million superyacht Koru will be part of the celebration.

Besides the choice of the wedding location, the soon-to-be couple has also set the standard for future high-profile weddings by reportedly hiring Lady Gaga and Elton John.

The duo is said to have paid a premium price to have the Grammy winners perform in Venice for the exclusive nuptials, with reports claiming Sanchez was the one who pushed for their appearance.

"Lauren wanted some big talent to sing for them, and it just doesn't get any bigger than Gaga and Elton," a source told the Daily Mail.

They continued, "It also helps that Gaga and Elton are good friends and were happy to do it together, which is cool. It will be like a mini vacation for the besties."

The insider also hinted at what the performance will entail, saying that both stars will sing "several well-known tunes" from their extensive catalogs.

Prior to dating Sanchez, Bezos was married to MacKenzie Scott from 1993 until 2019. The two had no prenuptial agreement in place, which led to Bezos parting with over $38 billion worth of Amazon shares.

According to sources, the tech mogul will now have Sanchez sign an ironclad prenup to avoid a similar situation in case their marriage fails.

"Jeff Bezos doesn't just want a prenup, he wants a prenup that will survive any legal challenge," longtime California lawyer Alphonse Provinziano recently informed RadarOnline.

Provinziano also shared that Bezos would need to be fully transparent about his assets to prevent them from being used as a loophole to get the prenup thrown out in court.

"For someone as rich as Bezos, that means preparing documentation of the complex accounting arrangements and business deals he's involved in so that she couldn't later claim that he hid certain assets from her," the attorney added.
